I have seen over the years, only certain ROTC programs can offer nominations. How does one determine if a local program qualifies? This is in reference to USNA, in particular. Thank you all. Asking for a friend not on this forum, yet.

As to JROTC programs, an Army ROTC can only nominate to West Point. If the Army JROTC unit is an honor unit with distinction, then it can nominate to all of the academies--USNA and USAFA. I think this applies to the other branch JROTC units. Hope this helps.

This is what I needed. Thank you!

@Gabe_ My kid was a 2025 applicant to USNA and USMA but recently received a TWE from both. He had a senatorial nom and service connected nom to USMA and a only a service connected nom to USNA from being in Army JROTC for four years, Deputy Battalion Commander as a senior. Very active all four years. Yes, his unit was an honor unit with distinction so the nomination met the requirements for USNA. The number of appointment from that pool isn't very large and you are not only up against JROTC (A / AF and N)but ROTC applicants and my gut feeling says that NavyJROTC's and NROTC chances are higher. The actual form your JROTC instructor fills out is this tiny check the box form that doesn't really speak volumes about you. I think he / she can attach a one page letter of recommendation. Make sure that whatever he/she writes about you is out of the park awesome. The service connected nom process is pretty disappointing compared to all the pomp and circumstance of the MOC/SEN nom process, there are no press releases or phone calls, no interview panels, no lengthy application and essays and worst of all you don't really get a chance to speak for yourself and show that why you should be their top pick. Get the service connected nom because it's easy to get, but get the MOC / SEN ones too (And win your slate!) Good luck to you!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. Wishing your kid finds the best path forward. This question was for an acquaintance of mine. I have two DD, and we have been through this admission roller coaster twice, but neither were JROTC. Thus, I did not know how to answer the questions posed to me, from my friend, about JROTC. I will pass along the insight from this forum. Thanks again.
