ROTC Questions

Hi everyone,
I'm a current junior applying for NROTC. I'm very new to the app and the whole process, and there are some unanswered questions I have:
- Should the transcripts come directly from the school, or can I ask my counselor for them and then forward it to the NROTC office?
- When are the board dates, and how many are there?
- Once they review your app during a board, how fast do you get your result?
- If you get the scholarship, how will they notify you? And, how long do you have to accept it?
- How do you do the interview? Scheduling, etc.?

Any help is appreciated about the timeline and overall app. I'm trying to gain as much knowledge about the whole process before experiencing it :)

Thanks,
Zoe

My son applied as a Marine Option. I know the school sent the transcripts directly in his case, but I don't know if it's required.

For Navy Option there is normally a board each month running Sept - April... but every year is different. Some years they skip one, some years they start later, but that's a good ball park. Marine Options there are 2 boards, one usually in Nov and the other in Mar. I think there are two Nursing Option boards as well.

You may not get a positive or negative reply until mid-April, so always be working backup plans.

Not sure how they notify you, but you will have 30 days to accept or decline. Since an acceptance is non-binding one should always accept. If your plans change you can notify them at that time.

Once your application is submitted and (mostly) complete they will contact you to schedule an interview. For Marine Options the PFT is normally either immediately prior to, or after, the interview. I'm not sure how Navy does their fitness test.

Hope this helps. I also recommend you create a new login that doesn't use your real name. Most folks remain anonymous here, as they should.

Thank you, this helped so much! Zoe is not my real name so I'm still remaining anonymous :)

Just to add, the school sent the transcripts but my son also took a sealed copy to his interview and included in all the paperwork they had, just to be certain they had it. He had a coach complete the PFT and left a copy with interview also in addition to submitting.

As far as notification, I think you will find that as boards start, you will be checking the portal so frequently for status changes that you will know before you are officially notified.
