ROTC scholarship transfer

Ok, So I have been lurking here for months gaining info through out the process. Thank you for that! My DS was awarded a 3 year scholarship today to the Citadel. It says pending acceptance. Here is the problem/ question. He applied early descision and was accepted to VMI. We have already committed and signed up for the STP. He never applied to the Citadel!!! Is it still a possibility to transfer this scholarship? Thank you in advance, and congrats to all winners!!!!

This is a hazard of early decision/early acceptance. Several years ago my son was in a similar situation though the schools were private with smaller battalions. He applied for the AROTC scholarship late and received an offer from the last board. I got the impression from the PMS that the fate of his (eventually successful) transfer request hinged on what other scholarship winners who had also been admitted to service academies would do.

It may be helpful to contact the recruiting officer at VMI to describe your son's dilemma. Who knows - maybe someone who applied ED to the Citadel was awarded a scholarship to VMI.

So if cost is an issue then I'll take less money.. Idk how they would say no
Cost and Brigade are just two factors. There is also the issue of available open slots at the school to which you want to transfer. There are plenty of reasons to deny the transfer. I'm confident they will do everything possible to make it happen but it's no guarantee. As ClarksonArmy said, don't burn any bridges.

Thanks so much for all of your advice

Thank you. I tried to explain this to him as he was applying, but after the overnight visit he was hooked. Only time will tell I guess.

does anyone think we will know before may 1???
You may or may not know before May 1. Although I'm sure every effort will be made to respond prior to the May 1 college deadline, it seems they have more transfer requests than usual so it may take a while. My suggestion, as you approach May 1, is to put deposits down on both schools to cover all your bases. That's what I would do anyway.

The third year winners haven't even received their letter in the mail yet. It's going to take time. If your school is giving you a deadline you need to communicate with them about your situation. They may be able to give you more time.

Oh man really? I looked on the forums from last year and kids said they had notification April 22nd online

I personally am not planning on transferring my 3 year scholarship, but I just received my letter in the mail today with detailed information that might be helpful to you. Oddly enough, the US postage stamp on the envelope says it wasn't mailed until April 15th, yet inside the packet it reads as follows: "Transfer recess must be received by this headquarters no later than 13 April 2015. ALL decisions will be made after 13 April, with a target notification date to winners no later than 6 May 2015." Either this is an error or some sort of misunderstanding. They're just now mailing scholarship packets, most people haven't even gotten theirs yet, but after the deadline. I'm sure if you are intent on transferring and inform them of this, submitting your request shouldn't be an issue. I could be misreading something here, but I've read over my packet several times and the dates above are definitely the dates printed
