ROTC Scholarship tuition payment

I stated a new post on this topic as well.

Yes, the scholarship funding non-payment is accurate and affects post-2015 graduation year classes. I just got off the phone with 3rd Brigade and the woman I spoke with confirmed this.

No payments without a budget which is funny since there has been no Federal Fiscal budget for the past 3 years.

As was previously posted, our DS contracted in August (4-year Army ROTC) as a freshman. No stipends, no book money, no tuition & fees have been paid to date. He has 3 other cadets who are also affected.

Sounds like a plan B for interim funding for all of our DS / DD contracted scholarship recepients. I have also contacted one of our Congressman for help too.

MtnMom;

Sorry, I double-checked with my DS this afternoon... NO, he and the other 3 four-year scholarship recipients have not yet contracted.

3rd Brigade who manages a (Midwest) multi-state area of school Battalions said no one with a post 2015 graduation year (MSIIs and MSIs) will contact until further notice (until there is a DoD FY2014 budget in place and Cadet Command is given the authorization.

Also received the same message from 2nd brigade (Northeast region).

It appears that the school battalions who waited to get the freshman and sophomores contracted until after September missed the opportunity to get our DS and DD cadets in the pipeline prior to the govt shutdown.

I mistakenly thought that DS had contracted after Initial Week (when he reviewed all his paperwork, security clearance info, APFT, etc.) and swore in as well.

Apparently the HR rep at the Battalion sat on the files instead of taking action in September!!

I just received word from DS that the CC has given the green light to battalions to start caontracting again. Fortunately his paperwork is done so hopefully will be submitted by the battlion today. :smile: What a relief!

My students' accounts have NOT received the scholarship funds as of yesterday. Luckily the school works well with the Unit & shows the credit in anticipation of the funds coming.

Thank you for the update!!! Very good news indeed. :thumb: I will let my DS know and tell him to start bugging (be insistent) on his contracting paperwork submittal to the Brigade. From what I have heard, it may be 30 to 45 days for payment to be made once the Brigade approves the payment funding.

I am very new to this! Our DS was awarded a 3.5 year ROTC scholarship in December. He had to wait for a medical waiver which just went through last week and will be finishing up security clearance, etc before the end of the semester. He was not able to do work study the second semester and we paid for the second semester. Will any of that be refunded retroactively?

If your son is able to have everything complete and sign the contract before the end of the semester then he should be getting his tuition money for this semester, he will not receive any retroactive Stipend money. Have him talk to the HR person in his Battalion about the tuition, and make sure he gets all the paperwork completed quickly.

Thank you! I think they are working hard to make that happen. He seems to think it will, but a second opinion from here is great piece of mind.
