Rotc scholarship winner

Hi everyone - first time poster here. My daughter (as many of you were) was required to apply to an in-state school for ROTC but since the application deadline isn't for a month, she hadn't applied to that school yet. She was notified yesterday that she received a 3 year scholarship to two out of state schools and she is going to accept. Is she still required to apply to that in-state school if she already received and will accept a scholarship from a different school? Congrats to the other winners, and for those who are still boarded keep those hopes up!

Since she has now received the scholarship I don't see why she would now have to apply to the in state school unless she wants to try and transfer the scholarship to that school. I believe that as long as an in state school was listed on the application she is good. Back a few years ago my son received the scholarship on the first board, he listed several schools but had not yet applied to any of them. Once he received the scholarship he applied to those schools where he was awarded the scholarship.

if she is not going to go she does not need to apply.
my son was awarded a scholarship to an in state school that he had no intention of attending, as well as his first choice.
the PMS from the in state called and my son told him he did not even apply. The ROO said he could take care of it, but my son said no thanks.

For NROTC you only had to "list" a school where you qualified for instate tuition. It did not say you had to apply to that school.

Despite what others have said, if she hasn't been accepted to either of the colleges to which she received a scholarship yet, I would recommend applying to the in-state college as well. It gives her some (additional?) options if she is rejected at the colleges where she has received the scholarship. Of course if she's been accepted to those colleges then there is no point to applying to the in-state institution.

Thank you everyone. This seems clear. She is happy to accept a scholarship at the out of state school, and she listed an instate school but it seems she does not need to apply at this time. I appreciate everyone's help. If someone (ROO) feels differently about this response please let us know - don't want her to get turned "down" due to a technicality! Good luck all.

This is of course as @kinnem stated above, only if she has already gotten into the school she would to I appreciate everyone's help. I am not a ROO, but definitely not an issue, if this is for Army, and in state tuition school is not even required. My daughter did not have one, she had a school in state that was a private school, the public schools were out of state. So as long as the school your daughter wants to accept to is on her offer, she is golden! Congratulations, exciting times!

I would second @kinnem though, only if she has already gotten into the out of state schools, otherwise, being safe is good.

Hello - thanks to those who have posted - very good info. My son received a 4 yr AROTC scholarship - it was on his portal. We have not yet received a letter in mail. I see here reference to a 30 day deadline - does that run form the scholarship award date? He has not heard form his colleges of choice yet - he has applied to some fairly competitive schools, regular decision - so won't know till late Match or early April if he has been accepted - more than 30 days from his award date. Does anyone know how this might work?
Our dau won a 4 year last year. She was in the same situation, she accepted the AROTC scholarship and called her #1 school and spoke with admissions. She received her acceptance letter the next week. Not bc she is that fierce ( well to me she is ❤️) but bc that is guaranteed $ and college ❤️ Money! Good luck and a huge CONGRATULATIONS bc your dau just won the lottery!! It is a great accomplishment!!

Thanks for all the messages. She has already been accepted at the out of state school she received the scholarship from. Glad all her hard work is paying off.

DS is a 4yr scholarship winner from the first board, and just received a certificate in a nice embossed folder almost the same as West Points today in the mail. It was a nice surprise!

Shock-n-awe...are you all still waiting for a BFE from USMA?
