I am currently in an ROTC program at a civilian college and recently I received my appointment to USMA. While there is no doubt in my mind that I will accept my offer, I'm curious to know if other cadets who spent a year in ROTC before going to West Point have had a more positive or negative experience because this.

Can't speak to that either, I have limited experience with ROTC. However the additional "military" experience should do you well as long as you don't get a big head because of it, and remember that USMA will be quite different in many ways.
As an enlisted candidate, all this applies to those like me but to a much higher factor.

My DD spent a year in ROTC before earning her appointment. The biggest benefit of your year in ROTC is maturity. You have been away from home for a year and learned how to manage your time. You will also have some basic military experience that will help with the Beast adjustment. Be a good classmate as others will look up to you.

One of my cadet's good friends spent a year in ROTC before coming to WP. She is doing very well at WP (she also did very well in her ROTC unit). You won't be the only prior-ROTC cadet in your class at WP. It 's more common than you think.

My son did ROTC at a sr. mil college. He was definitely more mature, plebe classes were easier for him, and he knew how to shine shoes and make a bed. Plus, he was used to PT.
