ROTC vs. Service Academy Waivers

Obviously both have different waiver authorities. My question is...are waivers easier to obtain through ROTC than the Service Academies? The first thought that comes to mind is that the Academies are much harder than ROTC; however, both commission officers into the military.

The reason why I ask is because I have received a LOA from the Naval Academy and have signed an ISR (Immediate Scholarship Reservation) with the NROTC Scholarship program. Both guarantee my entrance into their program IF I obtain a waiver for my knee.

Waivers are looked at the same for both ROTC and academies. One is not easier than the other.

In your case, USNA and NROTC are the same waiver authority.

Does this apply to arotc and usma as well? I recieved a asthma waiver from arotc within a week of sending a request, but all I heard from usma is that we going to pursue a waiver (this was almost a month ago).

AROTC and USMA are separate waiver authorities. So it is not uncommon to hear from one before the other as one is staffed quite a bit better than the other.

I got a remedial letter from USMA today, but I'm confused about actually what needs to get done. I have recently had PFTS and have already sent those to DoDmerb. I got 1 remedial code pertaining to PFTs and 3 remedial codes all pertaining to the Methacholine challenge. What exactly do I have to get done, I've heard some questionable things about the 2nd test.

I attended a "Blue-Chip Dinner" in my area for the Naval Academy. I spoke to an Admissions Counselor and he said that I will probably receive my waiver within the month. Since I got my LOA a couple months ago, that apparently puts me on the top of the list for the waiver authorities. Hopefully he's right!

Best thing to do would be to call DoDMERB to find out if the PFT's that were done would suffice for the waiver authority request. If they do not, you will need to get them repeated.

The methacholine challenge test (MCCT) has been described in previous threads, so please review those as for what the test entails. The MCCT is a safe test. It can be a little scary if an asthmatic reaction is provoked, but the physician will have all the appropriate tools available to reverse the effects.

The additional information is a request by the waiver authorities so they have the appropriate amount of information to be able to grant or deny a waiver. It is your choice to get them completed. It is not mandatory. Just know that if you do not get the testing completed the waiver authority will have to deny your waiver request as they do not have enough information to grant.
