ROTC

We are in the same boat. One the top schools my DS is considering only has Army ROTC. He has decided that he is only interested in NROTC or AFROTC so should he choose that school he would not do ROTC.

My DS is trying to sort through his options and all sources for commissioning. The school I think he will love the most only has ROTC. But I think his heart is in the Navy. Ugh....OCS?

AROTC or NROTC

Prepswimom, I understand your DS' dilemma. Our DS applied to USNA and NROTC tier III and was denied both. His original plan B waitlisted him and then rejected him. Plan C was an expensive private that had a great NROTC unit and pursue a scholarship as a college programmer, but the school did not have his major and he would not budge and move to a tier II or tier I to improve his chances. So that left plan D and a school that only had AROTC or AFROTC.

He decided to "try" AROTC (sorry PIMA). He loves it. Well, not all of it. But he's very excited about serving in the ARMY. The clincher was when his NJROTC instructor told him "the army has a lot of different jobs." DS did some research and actually found it was a better fit for what he planned to study and ultimately what he wants to do after his military career.

Just my $.02. Oh, and I say R O T C every since I said rotsee in front the gentleman who ran the CIA operations in Russia under G.H.W. Bush and was AROTC Michigan State in the 50's shot me a look that actually hurt.
