Hello,

I'm not sure which orientation date to sign up for at RPI as an NROTC. I called the ROTC office and they havent completed their schedules yet for 2017-18. RPI requires sign up by next week.

Is anyone else going to RPI? If so, which orientation and dorm did you sign up for?
Thanks.

I signed up for the July 21-22 one. I read somewhere on the SO site that ROTC students were recommended to do the ones in July- with a recommended August ones for people who lived really far away. I have had zero luck with contacting the Freshman NROTC advisor for this advice so I just signed up. One of the other incoming freshman told me that NROTC indoc is August 15- 22. I have already chosen a roommate (other NROTC girl) if you need to get in contact with one of the incoming freshmen head over to FB we have a group (search NROTC 2021 RPI- or some combo of that) we have a GroupMe running.

With absolutely no experience of RPI other than it's views of the Hudson, I would recommend going to the earlier orientation if at all possible. This is so you have the earliest opportunity to sign up for the classes you want before they close. I expect the NROTC class schedule will be ironed out by then. If it isn't you can re-jigger your schedule the first week of school if necessary. JMPO.

Not RPI specific, but you can assume that NROTC orientation will start a week before freshman orientation. You would roll right from NROTC orientation into freshman orientation and then to classes.

My son signed up for 21-22 July also. Not sure about the dorms but he mentioned he would like to room with a fellow NROTC shipmate. He joined the FB pages too.

Thank you to everyone for the advice. I'll sign up on FB. I'll be looking for a roommate too.

RPI NROTC Orientation is Aug 15-22. Are you talking about RPI orientation or NROTC orientation?

RPI NROTC Orientation. I've emailed and called for this information. Do you know, will we receive instructions on uniform ordering etc before orientation?

Are NROTC mids made to order their own uniforms? I would think anything needed would be issued during orientation or as needed.

We visited RPI in April and spoke with Lt. Wilcox as well as another individual whose name I can't recall. Apparently there will be another NROTC freshman advisor as of July, as Lt. Wilcox will be moving to a new assignment. We were advised to have information as to my DD's uniform/pants sizes etc for ordering through the unit- as this information would be handy. I was not under the impression you had to order it yourself, rather to know your sizes would be helpful. We were also advised that they would send a list to the incoming with names of those entering the unit, to aid in roommate selection, but I don't believe that has happened as of yet, and I know my DD and the others are in the Facebook sites for that purpose. It is my understanding that you won't be put in your actual dorms when you report on 15 August, and if you need to store your things for move in they will help, but after completion supposedly you can move into your actual dorm. I have been trying to verify this with residential life, but have not been successful.

If things haven't changed, you are correct that during the NROTC orientation week, the incoming freshman will store all of their materials in the basement of the armory. There will be quite a few upperclassmen to help out with this. They will be very helpful, and assist with getting everything squared away for you.

Thank you so much for the information! I had a feeling he was transferring.

Sad to hear this as he was great whenever I contacted him this year; I contacted him about orientation info also but haven't heard anything from him/the unit

Has anyone received any communications from the NROTC Unit yet?

We received an email from LT Wilcox on May 26 to our personal emails (not RPI email). You might want to send from both of your emails to reach him.
