Long time no see SAF. I just recently started NROTC at my backup school and figured it would be a good idea to get accustomed to running in boots and pants. My question is: am I allowed to run in my NWU pants and my boots with a PT shirt, or would that be a uniform violation? I sent an email to our supply technician but he hasn't responded. Thank you.

tommy, welcome back. Your "current midshipman" status will be a good resource.

One of the facts of military life is there is usually an instruction/regulation/policy for everything. Your unit will have its own. Check the website. When I googled "NROTC running attire instruction," multiple individual school unit instructions popped up, similar to

OP: No need to get accustomed to exercising in boots and uniform. I can't imagine your unit does much of this.

Focus on running in running shoes and gym shorts/ T-shirt. Focus on sit ups and push ups. If you are really gung ho for a boots and uniform run, wear boots and sweats or uniform. Be careful to avoid shin splints.

Capt MJ and USMCGrunt, thank you, both. I figured I wouldn't be doing much running in boots and uniform but I figured I might want to try it to push myself a little. I was a cross country runner in high school and I have some football friends whom I run with so I figured running in pants and steel toed boots would level the playing field a bit. I will definitely read up specifically on my branch and make a decision.

The answer to your question is yes, it is authorized.

I will second the posters above and tell you that running in boots and utes for Navy options will be a rare occurrence.
