With my new position time on the forum has been limited. I can recall my son being very excited at this point last year. He is currently one very very happy 4th Class Midshipman at the U of South Carolina.

Looking for this years growing list and wishing all the very best.

Please let us all know... Maybe there is already a list and I'm going through things too fast.

School awarded, field of study, etc.

If any parent has questions for U of South Carolina that can answer. In advance,,,the command is excellent, the involvement has been better than expected for my son, and the 3rd, 2nd and 1st class Midshipman / Marines have been more than helpful with getting the 4th class on-board.

Real quick: My son was an USNA & NROTC scholarship candidate. He was awarded the scholarship but denied USNA. After being denied he reapplied to USNA because of how much he loved it. He was offered a CVW this year but turned it down because of NROTC and his classes starting. Fast fwd. He is staying at USC...loves it!!

Off topic, but my DS was at University of South Carolina today for the drill meet. If they are not on their way back home yet, they will be soon. I'm looking forward to hearing stories from him.

In the nearly four years my DS has been there, S. Carolina has never hosted a drill meet so I was somewhat dubious. I checked with DS this weekend and sure enough they hosted a drill meet this weekend. DS was one of the proctors on the endurance course. Who knew?

You are clearly on a "need to know" basis.

Yes, and my need to know grows less and less.

My DS also went to the drill meet and said he had a fun, though exhausting trip thanks to the long drive.

Sorry about hijacking your thread. :spacecraft:

Pictures from the drill meet and the endurance challenge have been posted here. You may see your DD or DS!

Lots Going On

It must have been a big weekend, my DS was involved with the open house.

Kinnem, I hope all is well!!

My DS participated in/ran the endurance course! Only saw him in one photo and haven't spoken with him yet.

Pictures where?

Jiller59, I am obviously more intrusive than you are. LOL I was texting my son that very night to find out how they did. It's hard to get an actual phone call but he will respond to my text when he gets a chance

Excited Kid

DS got his first ribbon from the unit he was very excited. he was also up for midshipman of the month but missed it. maybe next time! GPA is looking very solid.

Way cool! Those ribbons look so good up against that Navy blue. I was down there for the final home game today. 3 bushels of steamed oysters at the tailgate. Yum. It was military appreciation day so they had big doings at halftime.

I learned a long time ago that I will hear a lot more details from DS if I patiently wait until he is ready to talk! We actually have pretty long phone conversations when we do talk; I look forward to them!

Half Time

Kinnem,

My DS was on the field for the halftime for military appreciation day. He was also at tallyho. I slipped up he knows you are looking for him to talk about the dog. Maybe at some point you will get to meet him.

Cheers & Happy Thanksgiving...

The Pain

kinnem, jiller59,

Good lord the kid just got home last Monday and it was such a joy to see him. The pain came back as I walked him into the airport just a half hour ago. I know he will be home in two weeks; however, I think there will always be hurt in my heart when he walks off.

Cheers

Merry Christmas

&

Happy New Year

I will have to tell my DH about this; he'll be happy to hear he is in good company. He also is blue when DS leaves after a visit. I am just so thrilled that DS is happy, likes going back and I know I will see him again soon. I am not sure why it doesn't bother me as much as DH.

I will be blubbering at commissioning in 1.5 years though, knowing he will be further away and visits will be infrequent.:frown:

Not to mention the tears of joy!
