Do we need to buy running shoes to take to BCT or do they issue shoes? If we have to buy and bring running shoes, are there color restrictions? Thanks!

In the past shoes have been issued (2 pairs for 2019). If you are bringing some they need to be conservative in color per the CSP ( or whatever we are calling it now) and AFI 36-2903

My DS wore his running shoes to I Day and carried his boots. They let him put on his boots during in-processing but it allowed him to have his running shoes for intramurals. He chose soccer and asked us to mail him a pair of cleats which we did during BCT.

It will depend on your cadre. Everyone will be issued running shoes but it will be up to your cadre whether they allow you to keep your personal running shoes or not. There are no color rules (this changed several years ago), but if you bring your own I'd go with at least somewhat conservative just to avoid attention.

But, those bright pink ones were so easy to spot on Webguy! ;)

Made it easier to find my DD nearby.

I think you know to whom I refer.

I do! My mom always said she looked for my tennis shoes too haha. So I guess that's a consideration in choosing color!

They allowed him to have his running shoes during intramurals. Does this mean they allowed him to wear them during BCT? I'm an incoming cadet and I just bought some ASICS running shoes to prepare for BCT. Would I be allowed to wear these?

He had to wear his boots most of the time. He was allowed to wear his running shoes during intramurals until we sent his cheats to him. Every squad is a little different. My advice based on my DS' experience only is to have your own lightweight boots and break them in over the next couple of weeks before I Day. Bring your running shoes or cheats in a backpack if you want them. Once there you will know if and how much your Cadre will allow you to use them.

If they are allowed running shoes/cleats for intramural can we bring their regular favorite socks for them at parents weekend or do they have to wear academy issued socks with running shoes/cleats?

We bought our DS socks on PW but there are guidelines (like most things in the military). As I recall, they could not have large logo's on them and needed to be a solid color (black or white). They could have a small logo (like a Nike swish) but nothing large. They will know what they can have and not have by PW, and can guide you on what to bring/buy.

KTMDad is correct on the regulations, so if his favorite socks happen to meet those standards, you're good to go. Otherwise he'll have to wait until he can have civilian clothes for non-regulation socks.

Thank you KTMDAD and Hoodlum15. He usually wears the Nike DRiFit in either white or black so it sounds perfect. I tell him to let me know if it is not ok so I will be prepared for PW!

Unless things have changed, yes you can bring those. You will be issued running shoes, but can wear your personal shoes during intramurals. My DD purchased a new pair of purple and pink ASICS prior to BCT, and was very glad she brought them.

Keep in mind that each squadron has its own rules and may not allow them, but you can bring them. If you are not allowed to wear them, they will let you know. My DD wore her boots on I-day and carried her ASICS in her small gym bag along with the other required items.

Good luck to you. Aim high!

My son did have a pair of running shoes, however you will have a pair issued to you as well. He did not bring boots as you will have boots issued. He wore down the ones they gave him and I sent some comfy Nike ones after I Day.

Please read instructions carefully, and (news!) follow them.

Each squadron will have its own rules for its 4*s. Parents, please try to have patience. When you see your (now very adult) child again at PW (MAKE RESERVATIONS N.O.W.), s/he will know what's allowed, what's not allowed, what's permitted, what's merely tolerated, and what's encouraged.

Yeah.. I figured we are only going to Colorado ,not some remote island. There will be stores. We can shop while there if necessary and if DS doesn't send specifics prior to PW.

By Parents Weekend, you will find that young kid you sent off to Colorado is now a new person, fully able to figure out all sorts of things mom & dad took care of just 8 weeks earlier.

Some how I think My DS figured it all out a long time ago. Some days it seems like he is even more capable than I am. Actually I am so grateful that he ( and my other two) are pretty independent. I feel like it will benefit him tremendously in a few weeks.
