Sad day for America today: Attack on our democratic process

I honestly stopped watching after Trump speech. I haven’t seen it. I admitted it in my post.

No willful blindness. And sedition is a whole different topic that I will not discuss on this site.

I am fascinated to see how this all turns out.
It’s not actually a different topic...probably an wise invite to have declined...

Here’s a part of 18 U.S.C. § 2384 that will explain it... important part paraphrased below

To oppose by force the authority of the United States government; to prevent, hinder, or delay by force the execution of any law of the United States

I decline because of where I am, no other reason. I don’t want to participate.

The woman was a 14 year Air Force vet shot crawling through a broken window in an attempt to breach a protected space, the Speaker’s lobby. She was a Qanon supporter and called for Justice Roberts to be tried for treason - and she thought she was doing God's work in DC today. Also in this article is mentioned that IEDs were found.

The Declaration of Independence says that we not only have the right but we also have the duty to alter or abolish any government that does not secure our unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Given that the U.S. was formed by settlers who threw off British government rule, there is also an historic precedent for overthrowing the government. Furthermore, according to Locke: there is no difference between an unjust government and a thief. Just as we are right to fight off a thief, we are right to fight off an unjust government.
No, one, that's not what we're seeing here. Two, the Declaration of Independence isn't the governing document of the U.S., the Constitution is. Lastly, the majority ruled. Trump lost.

As a recent naturalized prod citizen of the great United States of America todays event has been hurtful to witnes. Thanks to all the great young women and men following the Forums on this website in their eagerness and dedication to serve and find a path to do so. That gives me hope for the future and for the worlds most impressive democracy. Thank you

If they could only see us now.

Ya know, I wasn’t going to comment because MIDN and the rest of the military aren’t supposed to get political. But, honestly, it’s not even political to say that we don’t have an unjust federal government. The President lost the popular vote and more importantly the Electoral vote. Which, by the way, is about to be certified.
The only “unjust” thing I’ve seen recently is cowards and sore losers committing acts of insurrection by mobbing and rioting within the US Capital during an action session of congress in which the VP, Speaker, and President Pro Tempore were present. (#2, 3, and 4 in the line of succession.) I’m shocked they weren’t met with more resistance.

Yup she was an Air Force Veteran killed peacefully protesting. Ridiculous. May she RIP.

By no means did she deserve to die, however, to say she was "peacefully protesting" is incorrect. In the very article you posted it said she was in the Capitol and was "beginning to climb through the broken window of a door to the Speaker’s Lobby when she was shot." This whole situation is terrible and I hope America can use it to grow and unite.

Wow. Words fail me.
But you're contradicting yourself. You said she was a peaceful protestor but now you admit these people were attempting to overthrow the government. The problem is that this government is just, the election was legit, and Trump lost.
It would help to turn off OAN, Newsmax, and Info Wars.

The guy dressed as a Viking ... his picture is floating around twitter at a BLM anti-police rally in Arizona last year.
Here's the image people are claiming shows him at the BLM rally. He was a counter-protester, NOT a member of the rally.

Interesting point I hadn’t thought of.

Thanks

That’s outrageous.
Nah, it's accurate. There will be no more slack given to sedition and fellow travelers in sedition. People spreading misinformation and sowing chaos are on notice. The BS ends now. Facts don't care about outrage, and no one is entitled to their own facts.

First time jumping in on this thread, or political topics on the forum at all for that matter. In my opinion, on both sides, the media has become an echo chamber for the extremes on the political spectrum. Whichever way you lean, you turn on the news network that agrees with your point of view and are affirmed that your belief is the sole truth. I am guilty of this as well, but I wish we had a source without so much commentary that is so negative to the other side. Breaking into the capitol is no way to get the point across that you are unhappy. Millions of Americans are questioning the results of the election, myself included, but there are better ways to go about this rather than slandering the opposition and threatening their well-being. In terms of today’s events, neither the riot today, or the riots over the summer were peaceful. Innocent people died and businesses were destroyed over politics. We have become so divided it scares me as a teenager about to go off on my own to a country that is starting to seem foreign. Our nation is all about the freedom and ability to formulate your own opinion, while respecting and valuing the opposition. Even if we disagree, we should fight to make sure that every voice is heard on every issue. We need to take a step back and think about our values as a society and realize that we are more alike then we are different. We all want to feel safe, we all want more money in our pockets, and we all want to continue the great legacy the United States has left behind. We should be proud to be Americans in all circumstances, and that includes acknowledging that thoughts differ in different people. If we keep heading down the road we are on, nothing awaits us.

Sorry for the ramble, I just feel like we should all realize that our media is inherently biased on either side. We should try and recognize different perspectives, and that someone in the Midwest will naturally think differently than someone on the coast for example. But we are all Americans and should be proud of that fact.

All I want to say here is that it is quite the unfortunate turn of events today. As someone whose had and achieved an American dream, what I witnessed today was a disappointment nonetheless. I love what @gibby42 have said about perspective. THE United States of America is a melting pot of diversity. We as Americans have trust and bonds among each other to respect the individual's uniqueness. We trust that we will not abuse or oppress diversity. Recently, there has been a lot of conflict in interest causing violence. There has been a lot of talking. Not a lot of listening. Even the service academies are promoting diversity and are constantly striving to improve their diversity.

We sometimes forget to see that we share one thing in common. We are all American.

The present may hurt, but seeing the people on this forum, seeing the people I must compete against for an appointment, I know that the future is in the hands of promising leadership.

Let us respect each other and be entitled to our opinion; but not be blinded our own perspective. :wiggle:
