SAT/ACT Frustration

Anyone else getting frustrated that dates keep getting cancelled? I have no score for either so I cannot submit an application. My August 29th test date just got cancelled and they said the September dates will be cancelled also. The next testing date won't be until October 24th for the ACT if that doesn't get cancelled. I am applying for the MO so I can take the ASVAB for that, but the AROTC only accepts SAT/ACT's. Just making me nervous that I won't have a score to submit for that application

Many will end up in the same boat as you. Worry about what you can control, not what you can't control.

Non- ROTC question but wanted to get this groups sage counsel on SAT Scores. My DS got a 1340 (710 Reading/Writing, 630 Math) which wasnt too bad but was really hoping to bolster his score this fall. Looks like he may not be able to do so. Wondering when some of the upper tier schools say "test optional" if they really mean it or you would already be at a disadvantage if he doesn't report those scores.. So report or not report, that is the question.

Yes, very frustrated. My DS has taken the ACT (without writing) USMA requires the writing so we scheduled the April class date. Cancelled. Scheduled July, cancelled. Now, ACT has “updated” their website and I cant even get in to roll over for the Sept test or access previous scores! Never had an issue before. Tried calling “customer service “ which constantly states they are unable to connect your call due to “high call volume” no matter when you call. Emailed two days ago. No response.

My DS was finally able to access the ACT website. He had to create a new login & password for the new MyACT system but all of his information did roll over to the new system. The gentleman that runs a well-known ACT prep program in our state made some interesting observations based on his analysis of which ACT test centers were least/most likely to close over the summer. He thought these might be helpful when trying to select a test center for the fall. (1) Four-year colleges that signed up as test sites are the most likely to remain open. (2) The likelihood of a high-school site remaining open is inversely related to its size, i.e. smaller schools, particularly those in rural areas, are more likely to remain open. (3) Community colleges were a particularly risky choice. (4) For some it is safer to select a site in a neighboring state that has fewer COVID-related closures.

Took my DD 3 tries on Monday to get ACT to migrate to her new account. It would say it migrated and then she'd try logging in and would then say no email connected or other nonsense. Third attempt it finally let her in, but the closest site still available (and not til October) was 4 hours away. Thought ACT was going to let those that were cancelled log in FIRST but she never got any prior notification. She has 2 SAT dates registered so hopefully ONE of these tests still happens. She has scores from sophomore year, but that was prior to Calc so she's hoping to significantly improve.

Read what the school says about not submitting SAT/ACT. It may be different this year because of Covid but often they ask for submission of a project or something in place of the test. I’m guessing that for an upper tier school the project would need to be extremely impressive. Bottom line is if you don’t submit test scores you will probably need to stand out as exceptional in some other way, not just grades.

A lot of the schools I am applying to are SAT/ACT optional or not required. I'm not even sure I can get a date for an ASVAB!

I own an SAT/ACT prep center. What you need to do is travel to a state that is less restrictive. I live in MI and many of my students are going to to Toledo to take the exam. Yes its a pain, but i you want to be in front of as many boards as possible.

Good luck.

It got cancelled?? Did they email you that it would be cancelled and give you a refund, or did you find this out online?

My DD has been contacted via email by both ACT and SAT on cancellations. ACT kept $ if you wanted to reschedule or ask for a refund instead. SAT gave refund but it took a couple weeks to appear. Rescheduled 29th SAT and have not heard a no yet....🤞🏻

Unfortuntely in Maryland I am surrounded by states that are in the same boat as us. I was able to sign up for the September 12 session at my high school for the ACT. Which I find odd because they cancelled the SAT at my school. I was lucky to find an SAT school in the neighboring county. They just popped up today so I think I got lucky.

Good luck.

My school posted it on their FB page

I live in southeastern PA and go to a large high school. They are still planning to host the test and just sent out an email 2 days ago they still had seats available. Spring-Ford HS in Royersford, PA
