Has anyone heard of USMMA making any adjustments concerning this requirement? My son would like to take it again but was told (by SAT folks) that he can't retake it until November in order to make room for those who have yet to take it for the first time. Of course, he'd like to submit a better score. Some colleges are waiving this requirement for 2025 but I don't see the service academies doing so.

No decision yet, but I doubt they will waive it. My guess would be that they will allow later test scores to be submitted. I would submit what you have, sign up for the first available test, and resubmit with your (hopefully) improved scores. USMMA super-scores, so it won't hurt you to send in your lower scores now. Good luck!

They may have no choice but to make this year SAT optional. Spring of the current applicants junior year, which is the traditional time to take the test, most sites canceled and registration has either been unavailable or inconsistent since then. Kids who took the test early may not have the score they ultimately would have gotten, and their current score may not be historically competitive even though they are a good candidate who would have scored higher in the second try. If KP fails to have any flexibility with this, it will affect (shrink) their applicant pool. That really isn't in the best interest of the school. This is particularly true because many other schools are going SAT optional.

Is the ACT an option for your son? My son (2024) took both. Some folks do better on one than the other.

I think USMMA is looking to have the same decision as the other academies, and looking at other ways to make it fair. Every state is different....been hearing if you took the ACT/SAT in the past 1 -2 years (not sure the exact time frame) you will need to wait to take it again to let everyone else who hasn't taken it to do so.

Do not be surprised if they don't require it, but also don't be surprised if they add something else to the application to ensure equity.

As always, reach out to your admissions officer for your region.
