hey community,
just wanted to clear something up. If I just take the SAT test, do I still have to take the ACT writing test?

thanks!

You can take either one but definitely recommended to take both, more than once. I scored better on the ACT so USMA took that one

oh ok. thanks for the info!
i just got really confused because my Field Force Rep. told me to take the ACT writing portion even if i DONT take the ACT test...so I was confused.
thank you!

West Point will use the test that benefits the candidate the most.
So take both - as usually candidates will do better on one than the other.

Your FF officer was probably trying to just make sure that if you take the ACT, make sure you take the writing portion with it. USMA won't accept ACT scores without the writing portion.

I would take both the SAT and the ACT with writing. BTW I don't think it's possible to sign up for the act writing portion only. Your Field Force Rep was probably speaking in shorthand, "take the ACT writing' but meant 'take the ACT with writing'. Since the SAT is a reasoning test and the ACT measures what a student has learned in school some students will perform significantly better on one than the other.

Thanks for the information guys!
I just registered for the ACT test on June 11. Hopefully it turns out better than my SAT results..
