Hello everyone,

I recently received my scores for the SAT. My math score and essay score are satisfactory; however, my reading/writing score was a bit low for my liking. I am planning to retake the SAT to get a higher reading/writing score and super-score for a even higher number. When I retake the SAT, can I take the SAT w/o essay test, or do I still have to take the one with the essay anyways?

Thanks!

I assume the procedure for SAT is the same as ACT. DS only took the SAT once but took two ACT tests as our state requires one as state testing and it doesn’t include essay. His second test was mainly to get the writing portion and for some reason his science section was low on that one. USMA and USAFA both superscored his test with writing and without together. If your essay score is good and you are retaking just for superscore, you can do the multiple choice portion only and they will combine them all.

You do not need the essay to superscore multiple tests. Along as you take it once and get a satisfactory essay score you do not need to take it again.
