DS just received notice that he is scheduled for an interview on the same date and time as his SAT.
Here’s our issue - he has an “OK” SAT score from a previous test. We hired a professional tutor to help him work on his problem areas. DS is now stressing out because this was his last chance to bring up his score before his last nomination interview.
His last interview went fantastic, he was told that his package was stellar but he needs to add 100 points to his SAT score, which we already knew.
DS is distraught, he now feels he will never get a nomination.
Is there anything we can do? We know we can reschedule his SAT but he won’t have the score back before his interview

Who told him he need to "add 100 points" to his score and for what purpose? What interview did he already have? What are the scores now?

Has he — he, not you — contacted the MOC staff to inform them of his quandary and ask if they can accommodate him? Perhaps interview at the end of the schedule, after the test? All is not lost until he’s asked. Worst they can do is say no.

I just asked him to ask that exact question. I’m not going to ask anybody anything in an official capacity, the onus is on him for that.

Thank you for your response.

Well, what a particular panel for a particular MOC wants and what the academies want of course can always be different. Still somewhat unclear if they were saying that 100 points was needed for academy admissions or for nom purposes.

Either way, I agree that asking for a different date and time for the interview so the SAT can go forward is a very good idea.

During his Sen Nom interview a panelist told him that. His score is a 1200 right now.
Yes, that needs some work. But how confident is he that he will score much higher this time? Always give yourself the chance, ask the nom source to accommodate a different time for him. If they are reasonable, they will help.

He’s confident. He’s been working 4 hours per week with the professional tutor, one on one, plus a community college class in SAT prep.
His SAT score currently is a test he took with zero preparation so he could have a baseline. In hindsight that wasn’t what we should’ve done.

Are you asking what should he prioritize, the interview or the SAT? If so, have him explain to the MOC coordinator that he has the SAT scheduled that day. Can they have him interview later in the day, after the test? I would think they can accommodate his request.

I'm slightly in the same boat. I have my congressional interview on Dec 12th which is the ACT. I've only taken the ACT once before but I've been doing better on the SAT. Do you think it'd be worth it to try and change my interview time to accommodate the ACT or should I cancel since I have an SAT on Dec 5 and seem to do better on that test? I'm not sure either! Also, does anyone know if the SA's are accepting the Feb 6 ACT? I know USNA is as they pushed their application date back but I am unsure about West Point.

In your case, I'd suggest trying to call - as people said above - the worst they can say is no. Also, you can try the ACT on the 12th too, maybe he'll do great on that!

Reach out to the MOC coordinator and ask for an afternoon interview. They will understand. Probably most of the kids are going to have this conflict. I sat on a panel yesterday and I think 90% of the kids were taking them in Dec. The MOC might need to run the board in the afternoon/evening to accommodate.

I would also check to make sure your SAT site hasn’t cancelled for that date. I just got online today and noticed I was credited back money in my bank account. My DS checked his Collegeboard acct and his was cancelled. Along with alot of other Michigan sites.
