SATs or ACTs?

Good Morning Everyone,

I am a high school senior who has applied for the class of 2023 at the USMMA. I am from Connecticut and I received a congressional nomination on my first interview (I signed up for 3), to which I am also a 'hold' candidate. With that being said I also do not have an LOA. I do have a hefty offering to the Merchant Marine Academy, achieving high academic grades (all IB courses), being a varsity sports captain, heavily involved in band, Eagle Scout, Jr. Firefighter, etc. One concern I have is my SAT and ACT scores. I achieved a 1220 on my SAT (600 reading, 620 math), being on the lower side of average, and on my ACT I scored a 21 for English and 26 for Math... I did not do well on my ACT (despite high academic achievement and being top 10 in my class), and I did somewhat alright on my SAT. I would like to know if the admissions department takes one test over the other (depending on which test you did better in), or do they consider both with taking the common denominator of the combined scores shown up in your portal (under 'Status'). Thank you.

they super score the tests. So, they take the best math, and the best english and add them together. They also convert the test scores from one test type to the other. I "think" they convert sat to act.

Super scoring is used within a single test. That means that if you have two SATs or two ACTs the board will take the highest score from each section. Although, to be fair, ACT super scoring is pretty rare.

The test scores the candidate submitted are both on the bottom end of the score spectrum for USMMA. I would recommend a retesting (possibly for next year) because that would strengthen your profile overall. The SAT would be your better option, since you're closer to the standards in the .png file I pulled from https://www.collegeswimming.com/team/311/about/

I do not believe that is how USMMA handles super scoring. I believe the tests are converted to Act numbers, and then scored. (maybe it is converted to SAT--the portal should reflect which way it goes.) but some one closer to admissions can clear that up, or someone who has worked the college fairs recently. Sat and Act are both superscored--or at least they were 3 years ago.
