Just got the phone call, received a scholars appointment. I can't believe I got in.

Congratulations

The Scholars Program is competive and challenging. You will need to be in top physical shape. And mentally prepared for some hard work. Good Luck ! :thumb:

My son received a call a few days ago and received the paperwork yesterday offering him a CGAS spot. He has 30 days to accept or decline the offer.

Congratulations to both of you. I'm the faculty advisor for the CGAS cadets here at Marion Military, so if you have any questions about the program or about MMI, send me a message and I'll get contact information to you.

my son is in the program at MMI. I think its a great program. We went to parents weekend and were very impressed.

Does anybody have any input with regards to Georgia Military College? I understand that there are 14 scholars there this year and that next year the scholars will be split between MMI and GMC with NMMI no longer being in the picture.

How is it determined what appointee goes to which prep school? Are the areas of weakness of the appointees addressed by a particular prep school's strength or area of focus, is it by order of appointment or is it random? (Do the kids who could use improvement in Math go to a certain school - fitness go to another school?)

Both schools have similar academic programs as well as military programs. There is some difference in athletic offerings. CGA will assign the students in the spring.

Let me see if I can give a bit of a better answer. Students are selected to CGAS as provisional members of 2017. Marion Military Institute and Georgia Military College participate in the program, with each school offering similar academic courses. All scholars will take math, English composition, chemistry and physics, as well as SAT prep courses. In addition, both schools have corps of cadets, so scholars will receive an academy type environment. In addition, both schools offer inter-collegiate sports with women's soccer and football at GMC. MMI has varsity baseball and softball as well as men's basketball.

As to where a scholar will go, that will be determined by CGA by their own criteria. IMO, they will look to forming the CGAS classes in the same manner as they form the incoming swab class. I don't know what the distribution will be, but for this year 15 were sent to GMC and 47 were sent to MMI. I don't know if there will be changes for next year.

Hope this answers the questions. You can get more information at http://www.marionmilitary.edu and at http://www.gmc.cc.ga.us/

Are MMI and GMC the only two colleges that offer the CGAS program? Or are there more Prep schools that have this program? I'm a bit new to this information.

Those are the only two schools currently used by USCGA.
