Although I've been nominated to USMA and USAFA, I'm also medically disqualified. Therefore, I'm keeping an open mind about where I'll be attending school in the fall.

In order to help pay for these schools, I'm applying to national and local scholarships that I qualify for. Most of the scholarships ask what my number 1 choice of school is. USMA is my top choice but I'm not sure I should put that down as my first choice since I feel they may disregard my application as a result.

Should I instead put my top non service academy school? Maybe people who have gone through this before could let me know what they did.

You'll have to clear medical regardless of commissioning program, ROTC or otherwise. You really should have a "plan C" which includes a non-military route until you can clear a medical physical.

I'm not talking about ROTC scholarships. Just run of the mill scholarships for "Plan-C" as you put it.

Be sure to fill out the FAFSA. Now is a good time to start using last years tax return and you can update it later with this years. information.

Oh, okay. That makes sense Hydro. I would have to say, since USMA is a tuition free school, and because you'd need zero scholarship money to attend that school, list only schools that require your $$ to attend. (Why list a "tuition free" school when asking for tuition assistance?)
