I'm applying for a scholarship that asks for tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, travel expenses, and other, each having its own field to put the amount. I have no idea what to put except for the initial deposit of $2900 in the fees section.

Any other information I should put?

Why apply for a scholarship? you have a full ride to one of the greatest schools in America :thumb:

Daniel, my son recently applied for some scholarships as well. They also asked for an estimate of 4 year tuition & fees, room & board, other expenses. So he put down $5,000 estimate - $2,900 initial deposit and $2,100 for travel expenses (which was a conservative estimate in my opinion). He didn't want to over estimate since everyone thinks WP is absolutely free which it is except for those expenses.

Right on Mike:thumb:

and thanks Kim. I'll be a little less conservative:wink:

oh btw, my appt package arrived today. :shake:

Michigan

has a $4,000 "Promise Scholarship" for every student who passes the standardized testing. It is good at any state school and a few years ago the legislature passed a law allowing it to be used at service academies as well. That goes straight to the cadet account for pizza and subs. Not sure what to do with some others we are waiting on. The honor code would suggest my son decline them, right?

I'm also wondering about that. haha

I'd feel bad spending the money on the C-store when it could go to someone more deserving, but I honestly need the money for the deposit.:shake:

WAhoo! Congratulations Daniel, it arrived yay yay yay!!! No package here yet...maybe tomorrow? :)

There are no tuition, room or board charges at West Point. Scholarships stipulated for "tuition, room or board only" or based on need rather than meric cannot be accepted.

If your scholarship can be used for textbooks, uniforms or other expenses then it should be made payable to "Treasurer, USMA" and will be accepted.
They can be used to offset the deposit.
If allowable by the donor you can also use the money for a plane ticket home for leave periods.
Since the money is deposited in your Cadet Account you won't be seeing it for pizza and subs.

Would the initial deposit be part of the tuition or other expenses?

It does not go to tuition. It goes toward uniforms and gear you are issued - other expenses.

does GA have one of these...please say yes?

Cadet account

I suppose we will learn more about the banking situation as June approaches. Is the cadet account just for base expenditures, and they have a seperate account for pizza and subs?

If Georgia had one of these programs you would know about it. Here in Michigan you just have to test "competent" on our statewide standardized test to get the money.

*Update on Washington Promise Scholarship*
The Promise Scholarship program ended June 30, 2006.
We will not be awarding any new Promise Scholarships to students from the graduating class of 2005 and beyond.

Our Govenor ran us out of money :(

The "cadet account" is for issued items. Everything you get you pay for. All your uniforms, gear, books etc.

Your monthly pay will be directly deposited into your own private checking account. You will buy your pizza and subs out of here.
