Hello,
very grateful to get a 3 yr to GMU, but did not get it to my top choice (GWU crosstown at Georgetown). However, I am still 50/50 between GWU and GMU. Let's say I try to transfer my scholarship to GWU, and they accept it, does it mean it's binding to GWU and they cancel my GMU scholarship? Thank you so much.

(Side note, may be vague question, but does anyone know if it's very hard to transfer scholarship to GWU as it's quite expensive?)

And would you guys recommend contacting GWU's cadre first if i do transfer?

You mention financials. Have you cleared DODMERB? In case of a DQ and no waiver. It happens every year. And students are left scrambling to pay for school. It’s wise to consider this piece.

You first need to decide where you want to go, then adjust accordingly. As this is a 3 year scholarship, I am going to assume it is AROTC. I don't know their processes as well, but I believe transferring the scholarship is not a difficult process. If you decide you do want GWU, then contact that unit would be the 1st thing I did.

Thank you for reminding, no, I have not done DODMERB yet, is that something I sign up for online or wait for an email? Will keep financial in mind ty

Are you accepted by admissions to all schools? It is not hard to transfer it. But make up your mind first. Your question about still having a scholarship to GMU if you transfer to GWU makes me think you are not fully set.

Yes, I was accepted to all. Good to hear it's not hard to transfer.

You're right, I definitely need to make up my mind first.

I've always told my son it's great to be a place where they really want you! Some good points are made above regarding DoDMERB. You will receive an email ( watch your junk mail) soon, and do whatever you can do get that process going/done before you leave for school. It can take a while especially if waivers are involved. I have hard it's not too difficult to transfer an AROTC scholarship within the same BDE, but both schools have to agree to it, and it's not guaranteed. Think about the pros and cons of each school, and if you decide to land at GMU go in there determined to be the best student and cadet you can be. As they always say, the grass is not always greener. Good luck!

Which school/contact should you initiate in such instances? My son received the 3yr this week, but the school he really wanted was not on the list of schools during the process as they just restarted the program in '23 (Not a hosted school either). So, how best do you initiate that transfer request?

I would start with the ROO at the school he wants to go to. They can contact the school/cadre where he did get a scholarship to.
