If I am going to attend one of the service academies (usafa, usna, or usma) can I still apply for scholarships? If so, what kind? What specific thing must they say that way I know the academy will let me use it? Does anything have any experience with this that can give me insight?
Thanks!

Ideally, you would want scholarships that don't have restrictions such as tuition only because as a general rule - there is no tuition at USNA. However, there is a summer program (optional) called the National Outdoor Leadership School where Mids can spend time learning surviving skills in the great outdoors. If you want to do this program, you have to pay your own way. (USAFA calls this SERE and it is a mandatory part of the USAFA experience).

You can use 529 funds, personal funds, or scholarship funds (if you write a paper on the experience you can get a couple of college credits)

I don't know how many Mids actually go, but it is at least one example of where scholarship $s can be applied as 'tuition' at USNA.

And not considering USCGA? Great opportunities for women and much higher female / male percentage than the other SA's.

Cash scholarships can be used anywhere, for anything school related. Find these types, where the payout can be used anywhere. Look for private company scholarships.

Yes, apply for as many scholarships as you can. I would recommend applying for everything you can then figuring out the details after you win one. Start with your HS counselor to get a start on finding scholarships.
