For the evaluation of candidates by your English, Math, and Science teachers I have a question. For the first semester I had one English teacher, and now this last semester I have a different one. Can I just pick which one to ask to write it? Or does it have to be the latest one?

Thanks

I honestly don't think it matters, as long as it is a recent teacher.

DjSanguine is right, it does not matter which English teacher you pick, as long as it is recent. If memory serves correctly, I thought it said to receive evaluations from your 11th grade teachers. Pick the teacher that knows you the best and who can attest to your strengths.

Jake--That sounds about right. I know I read that somewhere. I needed to get a teacher from Junior year to write me a recommendation, because my family (Dad = AF) moved between 11'th and 12'th grade year.

Any English teacher from Junior or Senior year. 1 or 2 semesters does not matter. Pick the one you think would give you the best evaluation.

I'm a junior and taking an online course for english, how will that work?

Online courses are just as valid as courses taught in a traditional classroom. Contact your English teacher now and explain what you are doing and ask him or her if they will give you a reference. Then get their email address since you will need to input their email address into your application once it is available. I suspect that they will be glad to provide a reference.

An online teacher could speak to your academics and communication skills, but if you look at the form that is emailed to the teachers to fill out, they also need to rate you as a student in how you perform with class group work. It has questions asking about how you do with taking leadership, and how well of a follower you are as well. I imagine that rating scale that the teachers do has some impact on your WCS, so I'd call admissions when you start your application to ask about online courses.

If you won't have a classroom English class next year, then maybe they'll let one of your other teachers do it that know you at a more personal level; the same way they allow home-schooled applicants to give those recommendation slots to coaches and other adults.

PS to look at the form they email teachers, on the application you can click the right buttons on that part of it to lead you to a hard-copy of the form if you had a teacher that preferred to fax their recommendation.

Nah, no online classes here, just a different teacher for 2nd semester. And I know the 1st semester teacher liked me better :yllol:

Sweet, yeah, I don't like this online class, I will be taking English senior year, I just thought they wanted junior year teachers!

From the Instructions to Candidate Book

School Official’s Evaluation of Candidate
(USAFA Form 145)
Three teacher’s evaluations are used to provide insight
into your academic preparation and character. The instructors
MUST be your 11th or 12th grade English instructor, Math
instructor, and one other instructor (preferably a Science
instructor, but can be History, etc.), unless you are in college.
If you are in college you can have your college instructors
complete the evaluations. Homeschoolers can have individuals
within their community who know them well complete the
forms. If your instructors have problems accessing the form,
you have the option of printing the form to give to your
instructors. The form is available at the very bottom of your
status page.

Junior year teachers just know you better. If you use a senior year teacher, then wait a bit into the year to put in their email for the evaluation. That way they already got to know you, and can write a more personal letter to your strengths and qualities.
I used my senior English teacher this year because it's AP Literature and much more challenging than Eng. Honors that I took junior year. Having a teacher of a hard class be your recommendation can be a deciding factor. Just think about who would be your best recommendations if you're still working on the Application in your senior year.
