A 26 yr old mailman, quit his job and has a record deal. Also trending on ITunes. Feel good story, but the psychology of these songs is also neat...they meant to be shared. For people to join in and sing along. Stamp your feet and dance a jig! Bring people together. Perhaps their current popularity a byproduct of so much social isolation from covid.

When I was but a young lad, my parents often had "Burl Ives Sings the Songs of the Sea" on the stereo and to be honest, the songs
may have had some influence on me wanting to sail the open seas.

Search YouTube for the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters, a vocal group that often appears solo or with a Navy concert band. They do a wide range of music, but I like it best when they perform traditional sea-related shanties, chanties or shanteys (wide range of spellings).

The USNA Men’s Glee Club usually has at least one in their concerts. Here’s a classic:

If you enjoy listening to sea shanties, you might enjoy the movie : Fisherman's Friends. It is based on a true story bout a group of Cornish fishermen from Port Isaac who were signed by Universal Records and achieved a top 10 hit with their debut album of traditional sea shanties. It's truly a fun movie to watch.
