Hey so I'm looking ahead for my sea year list and I am kind of lost on what type of laptop to use. I am lucky enough to have an almost brand new MacBook and also a brand new MSI high-performance laptop. My question is: Which do I use for projects? Should I bring both and use one as a backup/media device? Thanks in advance.

Bring something with you that you don't mind getting damaged. If you don't need to VPN back to the academy, almost anything that allows you to finish the project will do. Bring lots of USB thumb drive to back up your work.

The advice about taking what you don't mind getting damaged is good advice. You probably only need one back up computer and your Surface. You probably want a computer that has an SSD since people here on previous threads complained about conventional hard disks (HDDs) possibly getting damaged from getting tossed around at sea. So Surface, 1 computer and possibly bring along a backup SSD drive and you should have it covered.
