Interestingly, the new SECDEF can only be “acting,” since he does not meet the criteria to be confirmed due to when he left AD.

I wonder what outgoing SECDEF did or said.🤔

I wonder what he didn’t do - and should have done.

I thought Wray and Haspel would have been first.

At least one source I read said he recently refused to activate any military plans against domestic protesters via an 1807(?) act,. and only wanted to do so under last resort. I wonder if there was some election related order/refusals that were implied as well.

Don't think he said "yes" enough in the waning days. That appears to be his thoughts: "Who’s going to come in behind me? It’s going to be a real ‘yes man.’ And then God help us.” Mark Esper exit interview with Military Times: https://www.militarytimes.com/news/...-says-he-was-no-yes-man/#.X6mR6dMjMgI.twitter

Rules can be waived
Sincerely
Gen Mattis
By a vote of both Houses of Congress. Just exactly what we need right now; another meaningless debate. DOD had an acting SECDEF for over six months following Gen. Mattis' firing.

It always seems that emotions never run so high as when the stakes are so low.
