Second Board Review

Besides calling PMS at target schools, is there a way that CC notifies applicants which schools they have scholarship offer at?

He said that I was not offered any type of scholarship for the round. He also told me when had no idea why the system gave me the DODMERB info, which is why I'm guessing it was some type of computer error on the status site or on the actual CC database.
In a couple of days we will all know for sure how accurate his responses were to your questions. Hopefully you'll learn something about SOME of the people in the Army and taking advice from anonymous posters on an internet site. I'd bet on the posters here........but that is just my opinion....

I would anticipate receiving a letter from them within the next week or so.

My son got a 4-year scholarship on the first round.

The site was down for the whole period surrounding the offers going out...I guess that's so you find out from the letter or a school.

We found out first from one of the battalions at a school on his list of 7 choices. The Scholarship Officer said each battalion can pull a list of applicants that have indicated that school as one of their choices. He had a list of 300 or so applicants and listed next to 4 of them, my son being one, was "4-yr". That's how the officer and the two of us found out. He could not access what other schools were offered to my son. TheCC letter took another week or so. The website did not come up until well after the letter arrived.

Not sure if the computer access limitations are still there...could explain though why a school would not see you have an offer...seems you could have an offer just not to that school?

I think it is important to note that the PMS did not say "I'm sorry the system is down and I cannot access it" or " You may have been approved for a different school and I can only pull up the results for this school" or "I can understand that you're excited and have been waiting for the board results, but I don't know what this DODmerb message means. Let me make a couple of calls and I'll see if I can get an answer for you". He said Mbeary was not offered any type of scholarship for the round.

My son received a phone call last night informing him he would be getting a letter offering a 4-year AROTC schlolarship worth $229,000 to a private Southern college.

Congratulations!!! Did his "status" change on the scholarship site?
$229K is about $57,000 a year for tuition only. Wow. Should be a great school!

The $229,000 is a lot of money. I was blown away that the Army was willing to pay the full amount. He is still hoping for WP though.
The ROTC site only provided a link to DODMERB which we check daily since those exams were scheduled through WP.

Have you checked your scholarship status today Mbeary?

I have! And I'm fairly sure I've won a scholarship now, just not to the school that I placed as #1 on my list (That's the scholarship officer I had emailed), I got one for my in state 'safeschool'.

The 4 year ARMY ROTC scholarships ALL cover full tuition, a monthly stipend plus a book allowance. There are no "tiers" like the AF scholarships.
Congratulations!

Congratulations!!! Hopefully when you are an officer you'll remember this experience and will spend an extra minute or so and give the people you are responsible for the correct answers instead of the convenient ones.

Have you received an acceptance letter yet from your #1 school? If you have, you might be able to transfer your scholarship to that school. Hang in there and good luck.:thumb:

After reading your post I racked my brain (limited though it is) trying to imagine where in the south or any place else there was a college that had an annual tuition of 57K+ per year (not including room and board) and couldn't come up with one. I went on line and Googled most expensive colleges and came up with a couple of lists (including Forbes Most Expensive U.S. Colleges)
http://www.forbes.com/2009/02/03/most-expensive-colleges-business-0203_colleges.html
and the most expensive I could find was: "The most expensive in terms of tuition and fees: Washington, D.C.'s George Washington University, with a sticker price of $40,437 for the 2008-2009 school year."
and
"$36,173 for Harvard, $35,300 for Yale".
So for $229K your son could attend the most expensive US College for four years ($160K) and still have enough left over for two years at Harvard ($72K)...give or take a couple of thousand.

Now the above numbers do not include Room and Board, but the Army Scholarship doesn't pay for room and board AND tuition. Even allowing for the monthly stipend, I can't figure out how your son could attend a school that requires a 4-year AROTC scholarship worth $229,000. Can you please help me understand where the Army gets this number from? Thanks.

I have gotten into the school, I spoke again with the admissions officer through e-mail and he was shocked that I hadn't gotten an offer from the school (U of Iowa) and that they would look into getting me an offer.

congrats to all those who got the scholarship during this round.

I hope to have the same fortune for my son next year around this time.

Good luck to those who are waiting for the next round!

Good for you. Sounds as though it may all come together for you!

I checked my status today and it still has the notification for scheduling an interview. Is there any hope that I received a scholarship this month or should I strap it down for another month's wait?

I'd strap it down. Anything is possible, but it seems these notifications come all at once and then nothing for another 3 or 4 weeks. Stay optimistic, there are still quite a few boards.:thumb:

The $229,000 is the number the ROTC MSG used on the phone. The college website shows tuition is a few hundred bucks under 41K a year. I suppose after R/B, stipend, book allowance, etc. it adds another sizable chunk onto the already steep tuition. We never thought for a minute the army would ever pay for a full four year deal at a place like this. Had we known, we would have listed ND as an option. The MSG said he gets eight full scholarships to offer each year. I'll give you a hint...the school is in the Big Easy.

Congrats again 11BRAVO to you and your son and thanks for the explanation.
