Hi, I've been a longtime reader of this thread and was wondering if you could help solve in my current dilema.

This year (for the class of 2011) I applied and recieved an LoA in December, however I decided to decline my appt. in favor of NROTC. Now I had been struggling with the decision of which branch to choose (as it was essentially an Army career vs a Navy career) for the better part of a year. I finally choose Navy (sadly, Top Gun being on TV the night before I had to choose may have influenced that...), however every day after that dreaded May 1st date, I have seriously been drawn back towards an Army career. I know my shot for this year has passed, no problems with that, I had my fair chance, glad some other candidate who was better prepared will get his chance now.

Now to the point, if I were to reapply for admission next year (class of 2012), what would be chances be? What would be the effects of currently being enrolled in NROTC and then switching to WP (both admissions and financial)?

Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but ROTC wise as well as Academy wise you would unfortunately have to start back over at MSI-1 as well as a Freshman at an academy.

If I understand your situation --

You are an entering college freshman with a NROTC scholarship and you want to switch to Army and apply to USMA for the class of 2012.

Certainly it is possible. In fact, I am certain you could get out of your NROTC scholarship today if you wanted to and go AROTC for this school year. If I were you I would talk to an AROTC officer at the college you are going to attend - you can find that person online here:

Good luck!

Well, just a suggestion, why not call your USMA admissions officer and ask if you can change your mind? It wouldn't hurt, the most they could do is say no.

I second that motion for a chat with the USMA admissions officer; better yet make an appointment and discuss it in person if possible. But either way, get on the stick and don't take no for an answer.

And - when you finish chatting with USMA Admissions, please let us know what they say. Very interested to hear the reply. Can't hurt to ask. If the answer is "no" ask what steps you need to take this very moment to begin the application process for 2012. And then you will also have the knowledge that your name is likely to be remembered when 2012 decisions come around - hopefully in a positive way but I supose that'll depend somewhat on how that phone call (in person visit, if possible!) goes. Maybe even ask if you may qualify for a prep year (probably not but shows you're serious!).

Let us know for sure how it goes. Here's rooting for you.

Oh wow I get it now- my reading comprehension must have dropped to a second grade level - -
you were offered an appointment to USMA and turned it down and now want it back - wow.

I completely agree with the above - call West Point today. Be prepared to do some explaining but be honest. See what they can do for you. It never hurts to ask. Good Luck to you.
