Second Time on the Roller Coaster

I watched this just now on you tube for class of 2018, is it a bad sign if I am already teary?
I'll answer my own question. Toughen up mom!! Note to self - watch several more times to prepare for this moment (and realize how blessed I am to be able to watch DS have this moment)!

So the slamming of the doors during I-Day for my DS c/o 2017 was the moment I completely fell apart. I am definitely not looking forward to watching my DD and baby go into Mother Bancroft. Already crying!

Ironically, it's something the plebes don't see. I never knew about it until I read a parent post it years later. It is one of the only times (if not the only time) you will ever see them close those doors during the day.

Received a phone call from my congressman today, notifying me of an appointment to USNA. Thanks to all of the second timers, friends, and well-wishers for keeping me sane through one of the craziest experiences of my life.

I have officially begun my second ride on the roller coaster. I submitted my preliminary application, and will submit my deposit to my plan-B school next week. I plan to get the CFA done this summer before I leave for college and also have my HS transcripts and letters of rec submitted before the end of my senior year. Any advice?
Should letters of recommendation come from HS teachers or College Profs?

It depends. If you used your junior year math & English teacher, you can use your senior ones as a college freshman. If you used your senior ones in high school, you need to use your college teachers. I'm a college freshman and my BGO has told me at his BGO meetings that the Dean of USNA (Dean Latta) has said that the college LOR is just so much more powerful than a high school teacher's. I mean after all, the letter is more than likely coming from someone who has their doctorate. A college LOR can show Admissions that you are succeeding at the college level. I would go with college LOR.

You should use your college profs unless you are in huge lecture class where your prof doesn't know you from the other 200 people in the class. Even in that situation, consider whether there is a way you could attract the prof's notice, such as by asking questions, seeking out the prof for extra instruction, etc. You obviously don't want to make a nuisance of yourself but you might be able to be someone other than a number. And, you don't need to ask for the rec until later in the year, so there is time to make a good impression. Of course, if you have a small section class, you definitely should get the prof's rec.

That is wonderful!!!! So proud of how hard you worked to make your dream come true. Had you been put on the waitlist for this year?

No, I was enrolled in the Civilian Prep Program last year. Basically I was given an abbreviated application to include passing a PRT, Certain academic standards, and meeting medical qualifications. I believe I was evaluated around the time of NAPS/Foundation people.

Thank you!

As a mom who prides herself in being strong, I knew that the door thing would get to me so I found ways to distract myself. I focused on photographing and videoing the experience -- there will be so many people that if you focus on trying to get shots of your kid, the bigger scene sort of fades in the back ground. It wasnt until I got home and watched the slamming door that it hit me. Also I tried to stay as far away from Bancroft so I couldnt actually hear the doors slam.

This I could not resist today folks. My friend here, mb1395 who I have gotten to know well in this journey, along with my DS, were both appointed last year, both medically DQ'd for late season sports injuries, both selected for the Civilian Prep Program and now both reappointed to the Class of 2019.

Proud of them both for their perseverance and can do/will do attitude. Congratulations men...well done!

Good news is never too late, but the wait wreaks havoc on the nerves. I am happy to post that DS finally received his offer of appointment. Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

WHOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Was he wait list, NAPS, College or Foundation?

Congrats on second time around...may be in your shoes this time next year.
