Second Time on the Roller Coaster

Since hearing the bad news on March 24 about not being accepted I have asked my son nothing regarding the Academy. The one thing I do know is that he re-applied the day the application opened. This past Sunday on the way home from his state championship race he said exactly this:

"Dad, on our way to drop me off at college can we stop at the Academy for the day so I can go in and remember everything I loved."

I kept is short and sweet:

"Yes, we can!"

Day by day, we will see...as he waits he just has to do well in class and in his NROTC unit.
My son waited a year. He is this years class. Stay strong and keep the faith. Your son sounds like just the kind of young adult that The Naval Academy needs.

Excellent...

Thank you trini1066...

Our DS is well into the process now he was telling me last night that the only thing he has left at this point is the CFA (which he will do in college) and his BGO interview. The only thing out of his reach is his HS transcript which will not be finalized until the end of June. He even has his MOC information completed. I guess he can now sit back, work out, enjoy the summer and wait for his NROTC orientation day.

Tenacity

My son's roommate this Plebe year, applied 3 times and was almost 3 years into his college education, when he finally received his appointment. You know he could teach those other Plebe's about tenacity and appreciating the Academy!
The other Plebes call him "grandpa"

Honestly at that point wouldn't it just be better to finish up at the college and go to OCS???

I think if your ONLY goal is to commission, then, yes, would make sense to finish through ROTC or try for OCS. But if your dream is still to attend and commission through the academy, then why not?

OK Folks, just could not help but start the new process with a new thread. Same ole suspects and a brand new year with a brand new process with different ups and downs.Let's keep up the support and start the Application Process for 2019 with a wiser and more experienced perspective!

Oh and lets start stocking up on the drink orders now for March and April :rolleyes:

Hello old friends - well, it looks like DS has decided to reapply. we have said very little since the TWE arrived, I just know he started the reapp process but has not talked about it much. Today he met with ROTC unit where he will be attending in the fall and in the end decided he really wants Navy. So it looks like we are on the roller coaster again....I hope you all saved a seat.

Welcome Back Prepswimmom! Make sure the bar in front of you is locked in its secure location and prepare for the anxious climb. This time we know what the clickity clack of the climb means :)

Good Luck, Old Friends. My DS accepted an appointment to the USMMA. He did have interest in reapplying and opened the initial app. He received an email from our regional admissions person asking him if he was going to reapply -- told him he had a strong application and that the dean of admissions was going to be in our area and they would like to arrange for him to meet him. He was hopeful and game but when he told them where he was going in the fall…they said something like..well..you can still take the meeting but we don't really like to take from other academies so it is unlikely. So there goes that! He is happy and on the road to becoming an officer in the US Navy -- so i will be watching from the sidelines this time and cheering you all on.

I am so glad that one by one my old friends are fastening their seat belts to join me on the second ride. I look forward to supporting each one of you as we embark on another journey. I feel we will need each other more this time around. We are all wiser, and have no doubt grown from the experience of our first ride. We have sons and daughters who are resilient leaders. Here's wishing all of you nothing but the best. And that my friends is the BTE when we unbuckle to exit! Here we go!

My son is an official candidate again also. His admission counselor strongly encouraged him to reapply .He would have even without the encouragement .

My DS is reapplying and has started the process; however we are still waiting to hear from NAPS wait-list
