Second Time on the Roller Coaster

Hello old friends!! Long time no check in. I read thru all your posts and see some of you are still in it and some have stepped out. I just thought I'd update where DS is. After beginning the reapp process, he has decided to stay where he is for the moment. DS is at Catholic University in DC and loves it, had nearly a 4.0 GPA first semester, is on the swim team and has some great clubs that he is involved with. Second semester he will have an internship on Capitol Hill with our Congressman. He still talks about reapplying, maybe next year, or going OCS after graduation. I wish all of your children the very best, wherever the road may lead. I know they will all have a bright future.

Well, 4.0 this semester at a local Uni having taken Chem, Calc, English, Hist, etc for a total of 17 CR. App complete minus a nom. Hoping for one soon. I got a nom to Westpoint from Senator 1 (he historically only gives out 1) and I'm hoping for noms to the other academies from the other senator and rep (I got multiple to multiple academies last year) Fingers crossed. Best of luck to everyone else in the reapplication pool.

Prepswimmom, my best to your DS! Sounds like he has found a home. All the best to him as he embarks on a different ride in the park. We now have 2 nominations with the transcript at USNA as of Friday. The nail biting begins. Going to add a few new prayers to the rosary. My DS did very well his first semester, both academically as well as in his NROTC unit. I won't say good bye, but good luck, and may our paths cross again. Thanks for your words of comfort for all of us who became somewhat of an extended family last year. Your DS will do great things!

My very best wishes to your DS Spelly as he takes on the challenge again. I will keep him in my prayers and will keep checking for a successful outcome.

DS received his 2nd congressional nomination just before Christmas and now it's back to the waiting game. It's hard to believe that a year has already passed since we were in this position, but here we are again!

Is is just me or is it less nerve wracking this time around?

Appointments are starting to be sent for Non LOA and Non Recruited candidates. DS was called out of class by MOC yesterday to tell him he has received an Appointment to Navy (no LOA, not recruited). I read the threads all last year, DD is Class of 2018. Best wishes to all of you, I hope your waits are very short!!

Hi Spelly, Prepswimmom and all my old buddies! Just wanted to let you all know i check in on you once in awhile and i am rooting for you all. My DS is in the thick of plebe year at USMMA. He is doing well…received a silver star for academics for the first trimester. Says it is tough but it is what he needs to do to get where he wants. I think the TWE still stings and he would rather be at USNA but has his eye on the prize which is to be an officer in the Navy. He was pretty much told not to bother reapplying from another service academy as they have an "understanding" not to poach. And, truth be told, it would just add another year on to his quest to be an officer in the navy. The great thing about USMMA is how small it is, less than 1000 kids. It is a very personal experience where everyone knows everyone. And he looks mighty handsome in his whites! Keep on keeping on and i am rooting for you all from southern california!

Hello Mrs. M! Glad your DS is doing well at USMMA. It certainly is nice to see old friends checking in. Thank you for your your support! Stay tuned and keep those positive vibes coming!:)

Just checking in.

My DS decided not to finish reapplication process to USNA. He'd rather be class of 2018 and get his commission sooner than later. He enrolled as a Marine Option college program student at the University of Oklahoma in the fall of 2014. He also reapplied for the 4 year Marine Option scholarship -- and had backup plans of the sideload scholarship.

No backup was needed. He received a call from the RS on 19 December informing him that he was chosen in the early/November Marine Option board. His NROTC portal updated this weekend with the confirmation that his 4 year scholarship was still at OU.

He's doing well with NROTC and looks forward to getting his career started.

Tn Dad checking in. DS is loving college. He is not reapplying to USNA, but we talk about the "what ifs" occasionally.

Best to all of you who are applying and reapplying. Stay to the task and don't let any hurdle stop you until you have attempted to clear it every way you can think of. Herndon climb takes time!

Bob the mailman is still on the job, and probably happy we aren't stalking him!

Tn Dad

I have waited many sleepless nights my friends to post this news. I called my son this afternoon after receiving a message at home from the senator's office who nominated him. He had just received the same message on his phone. The 2 minutes I spent waiting for my DS to call back seemed like an eternity. Not sure my legs were going to hold me up as I saw his call come through on my cell. I was already crying when I answered. He said that would need to make flight reservations to be in Annapolis July 1st. As tears ran down my face with joy, my son told me of his conversation with the senator's office. The day has finally arrived my friends! DS has received an appointment to the class of 2019! BFE will be sent out next week. We should have by end of week. I plan to personally deliver it to him for opening. The 4 hour car ride will seem like an eternity, but I can't wait to hug him and tell him in person how proud I am of his accomplishment. I hope that all of my 2nd time friends will post good news. We all have some pretty amazing children. I'm praying for all of you! What a ride it has been. :D

OMG ... your post just gave me chills (and a few tears!!). Congratulations to you and your DS!!!!!!!!!!!! My DD is a senior in high school, and this is our first time around and we are so hopeful that it will work out the way she wants. But reading your post helps to know that there where there is a dream, there is always hope! Congratulations again.

Congratulations Spelly and DS ! So happy to see that some on the second ride on the coaster are seeing the fruit of their labor! He has earned this appointment!! As others have said in the past, wrap him in bubble wrap 'til I Day!

Congrats, Spelly to you and your son! I followed all the posts in last year's "Still in the game" thread and I am so happy to finally be able to say "Welcome Aboard".
