Secretary of Defense Nominee

Everyone who meets the standards get thrown in a hat.
That's an interesting take but not one that I expect to take place. Merit based is what selections according to
Whole Person Multiple and criteria such as that is basing selections on merit as has been the case for a very ling
time. Where this could change things is with the National Wait List and its equivalents among the different
academies which is where selection order based on DEI considerations could occur.

If the lawsuit becomes moot, then SCOTUS very likely won’t be ruling on the merits of it

But I keep hearing that judge's rulings, and things like the appeal process, don't matter. :)
There wouldn’t even be a ruling on the merits from SCOTUS on this case if it becomes moot. Maybe they’ll rule “this case is moot so therefore we’re not going to decide on the merits” and leave it at that. Then a justice or two will dissent and talk about the merits because why not

It’s more of a thing for if this administration issues some sort of an order getting rid of affirmative action at the SAs, therefore mooting the SFFA case. And then the next administration could easily reinstate AA at the SAs via an order. Then the case would have to start over to get to SCOTUS which would take time of course

When was the last time you saw a SECDEF in good enough shape to do PT with active duty service members?
I can answer that for you: NEVER.

He was just seen this morning in Poland, working out - in the snow - in shorts.
Tell that to the 28 old guys before him;

Forrestal- Too old
Johnson - Too fat
Marshall- Too old
Lovett- Too old
Wilson - Too fat
McElroy- Too old
Gates, Jr.- Too old
McNamara- Too old & probably beneath him
Clifford- Too old
Laird - Too fat
Richardson- Too old
Schlesinger- Too old
Rumsfeld - Too old & probably beneath him
Brown- Too old
Weinberger - Too old & probably beneath him
Carlucci- Too old
Cheney - Too fat
Aspin- Too old
Perry- Too old
Cohen- Too old
Rumsfeld - Too old & probably beneath him, again.
Gates - Too Fat
Panetta - Way too fat
Hagel- Too old
Carter- Too old
Mattis- Too old
Esper - Too old
Austin - Way too fat

I totally respect this! And it is very reassuring to me as a mom.

To the people I served with, it's only one of the myriad of things that matters.
Long ago in a land far away, 29 Palms, the SECDEF walked through Camp Wilson. I had set up my BAS in the middle of the camp and had my corpsmen standing by to greet him. He and the uppity-ups walked through, literally walked through without talking to anyone. I spoke with the CO later in the day and he said he didn't speak with anyone. Strangest thing he'd ever seen he told me. An old guy in a suit and heavy overcoat just walking in the desert. My guys would have loved the opportunity to show him our gear and tell him what we do.

“The shadow of the leader.”
Bad one that day.

All your people wanted was to be seen and appreciated. Especially the handpicked Navy corpsmen who earned a spot with the Marines, and the long-standing traditions and legendary history of the relationship.

I am retrospectively 😡 just picturing that.

Well … not gonna him-haw on the age metabolism physique thing … but the fact that Hegseth staged this Event with my Polish brethren sends a direct message to the USS of R …. My Polish brothers will hold the line and do everything they can to help Ukraine hold the line …

You cannot trust an old FSB agent … and don’t think for once that this snake is interested in any kind of peace and brotherly love …

I think our supreme leader might be a little too naive and trusting … and gets my worry and anxiety meter fluttering … although I got say that I like all the angst and hubbub that Elon and Doge is doing … a very direct way of breaking things down and figuring out what is absolutely necessary from a Federal government stand point …. Congress can’t do it as we know that that Bureaucracy is slow as molasses at getting anything fixed and orderly and cost effective …

James Forrestal?
George Marshall?
Robert Gates?

Speechless.

I'm sure that goes over well at the meetings of the SecDef fanboy club. Not that most of them would even recognize more than 3 of those names.

How about a picture Tulsi Gabbard surfing?

.
Btw … God does create human physiques that defy today’s reasoning on what is expected to be athletically gifted …

A life long close friend of mine is an example …. Big as an Ox … Strong as Ox … belly hung way over his belt from Kindergarten … and he can drink a case a beer and out perform and out run all of us like Fred Flinkstone and Yabba Dabba-Do

There are literally millions of people fit enough to work out in the snow. That doesn't come close to qualifying them for a cabinet-level position. In the meantime, countless young people who have committed themselves to serving their country are essentially being told they are unqualified pity-hires. I'm no military expert, but that seems contrary to maintaining any sort of positive morale in the forces we depend on to defend our democracy- or what's left of it.
