I am an upcoming freshman who is on a 4 year AROTC scholarship and my pt test that qualifies me for my scholarship funds is the 27th of this month. The middle of my right foot gets sharp pains whenever I run and the top of it in certain places and the right side of it hurts when pressure is put on it. I'm not sure what this is but it is extremely uncomfortable to train with and I have to get under a 15:54 2 mile by the 27th. I'm in decent shape, I max out my pushups and situps, and I can run around a 15:00-15:30 2 mile without the injury but with it I'm kind of pushing my limit here. Should I lay off of it for a week and work real hard the final 2 weeks or should I work through it and address it after the PT test? Any advice would be appreciated

But if it comes back that there is a stress fracture it could delay me contracting and dodmerb might not waive me.
Your correct, but as long as you pass by the end of the semester your scholarship money should be OK. So... what's more important... your heath and being able to continue ROTC or perhaps blow the test, and/or blow out your foot and be DQed for good? You have no idea what's going on.. don't jump straight to the worst possible scenario. It may simply need a rest. See a professional.

You’re right, I’ll go and get this taken care of ASAP. Thanks for the response, go gamecocks

Speaking of the Gamecocks, my cousin Cory Helms just signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sounds like a stress fracture. Better to take care of this now than keep running on it and end up with a full blown break.

I'm not making an Internet diagnosis as my Xray vision isn't working at present, but look up Jones fracture on your favorite search engine.

It is a fracture of the proximal end of the 5th metatarsal. If you have this it will require immobilization of some sort or surgery.

I don’t have any swelling or bruising it just hurts like hell. That’s why I’m so confused as to what it is but I’ll be going to get it looked at tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the responses it’s been a big help

yep, that's one of the characteristics of the Jones fracture. It is often misdiagnosed. An xray is indicated.

Another possibility is that it's a stress reaction which is the precursor to a stress fraction. The cure is simply to rest - so no running for a while which gives it time to heal and prevents you from getting a full-blown stress fraction.
I know about this because it's something my son dealt with.
