Seeking advice on best way to prepare

all good, sound advice. I've also read, while doing the same research, that an over abundant quantity of EC's may not help a candidates situation. A clear, concise, and determined list of activities that you enjoy and have maintained a connection too over time seems, by some accounts, to be a better way to go.

My advice, maintain consistency in your efforts, and believe they are looking for Math, English, and Physics. It is after all an Engineering School. But don't give up if your not a 17 year old math prodigy, a published author, or a brainyack physics major. Be confident in your direction.

After it's all said and done, they are evaluating the whole person. The stats are clear, not everyone selected is in the top of their class. It's competitive, but not impossible.

I recommend that you apply to STEM this year. It is a week long science/fun camp at USNA free of charge with transportation at your own cost. The mids are in charge of most of its functions and they do a great job. The application should be available around late February or March on the USNA website. It isn't NASS but it will give you a campus visit to the academy and the chance to speak with quite a few mids. I even had to opportunity to speak to an admissions official.

Admission to the week long camp was "highly selective." 10 percent was what I was told but I did apply the last night applications were open (a few short paragraphs to write plus your PSAT/ACT/SAT scores). I believe it was definitely worth it.

Thanks!

That sounds like a good thing to do...I might have heard of that before but had forgotten. Do you attend that Sophomore-Junior summer or Junior-Senior summer?

Visit www.usna.edu/Admissions to find the specific information on STEM. It is available to students entering 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. You are eligible to apply for and attend more than one session. Apply as early as the applications are available. Best wishes.

Sophomore- Junior summer for STEM

Junior- Senior summer for NASS

Okay, NASS obviously is but STEM looks like a great experience and good bullet on an application. Thanks for the advice:shake:
