Seeking leadership opportunities

I'm currently a sophomore in highschool and I realized that I don't have many leadership positions currently. Being in 10th grade I play sports at a JV level and I am an E-4 in my JROTC unit. I want to be a leader on my team by being a captain but that position is usually given to a senior. As a Junior in JROTC I'll have the opportunity to be a section leader or a squad leader next year. This is only one leadership position I can have next year when I begin my application. So with all this, my question is, how can I go seek leadership positions and opportunities that I would be interested in? I don't want to just "check the box" and be a leader of something I don't care for. Also does community service count as leadership? (I have around 60 hours currently. Normally doing JROTC events or helping elementary schoolers). Is greatly appreciate any response. Thank you

Leadership can be President of a club or Captain of the Team or Section Leader in Band. But it can also be:
-Student involved in ethnic community center for years and then is asked to teach little kids
-Actual officer in a club
-Watched his little brother after school and encouraged parents to sign up brother for sports team and took him to practice
-Within a club, organized an activity for that club
-Led a community service activity
-Lead singer of a band - sings, chooses set list, organizes transportation for other members
-Summer Camp counselor
-Boy Scout Eagle Award/Girl Scout Gold Award
-EMT Cadet
-Boys State/Girls State
-Tutors others
