Hello, I am a rising Junior who is going to apply to the SAs this school year. I understand that I need teacher evaluations from my 11th and 12th grade teachers along with letter of recommendations; therefore I should start establishing relationships early. I have a good relationship with the AP 12th grade English teacher because she is the advisor of my school’s academic program —where I am the chemistry tutor. She knows me well and my leadership capabilities. However, I won’t have her as an English teacher until Senior year and I feel like I will be asking her too late (I want to submit everything by the end of August). I also don’t want her to write me a letter of recommendation because I already have two other references in mind. Would it be best to just ask the English teacher I will have this year (and start to establish a relationship) or wait until senior year to ask my desired teacher? Thank you in advance for any opinions.

You will have to follow the explicit instructions for each academy. You don’t get to choose who evaluates you. And they aren’t traditional letters of recommendation, they are email links sent to the instructors to complete online.

Building on @Heatherg21: While your intentions are good in “building a relationship,” the evaluations aren’t about that. They’re about your school performance, with specific questions provided by each SA. That’s also why the SAs are very prescriptive about which teachers can do it. For example, USNA requires your junior-year math and English teachers, because they’ve actually seen you in action. Again, dive into the particular requirements of each SA and pay attention to detail. It’s straightforward stuff.
