My son just got the following (quite terse) email related to his NROTC-MO processing.

"Our next processing day will occur on Saturday, 13 October 2018 beginning at 0800. Same location as before. Since you have completed everything in September, please arrive at 0845 in workout attire for running fitness test. "

He has two questions.
1) Does the fact that he got this email mean he wasn't selected in the initial board? I think yes.
2) The email seems to imply that it is required to take the fitness test again to be considered for the next board. This is consistent with something I heard when we were up there in September (but I am still surprised it is the case). Any comments?

Thanks,

I don’t know why they want your DS to retake the test, but if they are asking for it, it would seem that they still have an interest in him. I would take it as a positive sign, and nail the test!

Regarding the “quite terse” email, it seemed like normal correspondence to me. The military by design needs to communicate clearly and to the point without any extra fluff, which this email was. Best of luck!

TERSE is actually a military acronym:

The Marine Option boards haven't happened yet. They are separate boards conducted by Marine officers, as you would expect, and there are only two of them. One is in November and the other is usually late Feb or early March. The NROTC selection board schedule you normally see mentioned here are for Naval option candidates only, not Marine option candidates.

I can't speak to why they would like him to run the fitness test again. It may just be a form mail snafu. In any case he should arrive attired for the PFT. If he is not selected by the first board they often allow folks to do updates for the second board, including the PFT, so do not be surprised by that. Of course, one could always contact the sender of the letter to ask the question you have in this regard.
