Semester Abroad

I know that cadets with a language major can go on a semester abroad - is it also possible for cadets who are double majored in a language and something else, perhaps a sosh, to go on one as well? Thanks in advance everyone, these forums are very helpful.

I'm planning to do an engineering, but I don't know if I'm going to double major in French or anything. I just like the language. I still would like to do a semester at Saint Cyr or something.

My DS ('18) is double majoring in Chinese and Military History and was told he can do a semester abroad during cow year

Reading some recent posts here on this thread, I realize some may have a misunderstanding about "semester abroad". This will be your AIAD requirement and you can travel. But its not a semester abroad in the sense of studying at another school or travel during a semester at WP. Its mostly a one or two week adventure that is guided with a group from WP. Depending on the subject matter it could be up to four weeks during the summer if it fits with you military and leadership required schedule.

This is what makes SA unique. Your summers will be filled with academic, military, leadership requirements. You may get four weeks off during the summer and it may be split.

Tug, while most overseas experiences for cadets are during the summer in a AIAD, a good number of cadets actually go for a semester. St Cyr was the historical only option, but since has grown to include places like Austria, Egypt (not sure post Arab Spring), China, etc.

I will never ever ever question you 845something. And for our readers, there are cadets, mostly in their Cow second semester who do attend a semester abroad in a country with agreements, alliances with the US. Many of these programs you attend a university/college and take the same curriculum as the semester you are missing at WP. These cultural immersion programs that are popular with the language departments try to place you with a family as a host and try to avoid placing you in a dorm environment. You must be a high achieving cadet with no disciplinary actions. High marks on all three WP pillars. The application process is long and may involve an essay, interview in the language and be fluent in the language. You have no association with the military or wear military clothing.
Recently, cadets/students were living in the Ukraine and when recent tensions grew the cadets/students were retrieved.

I was the one confused......ahem......again.
