A few weeks ago I asked when the earliest I could take the CFA was. It turns out earliest was around may. Reason I asked was because I wanted to do it during swim season when my physique is at its peak. Would I be able to take it during swim season with my coach as the proctor and submitting the scores at a later date?

you can't take the CFA until you are an official candidate. that is because you can't have the info sent you the proctor before then.

you can't take the CFA early, then pre-date it later

i would suggest doing a practice CFA early, the spend your off-season time working to improve it. CFA is different that swimming, if you work at it, there's no reason you can't spend that time improving your running and upper body strength

best of luck

As many BGOs and posters have stated on the forum - if you keep yourself in shape on a regular basis, the CFA isn't as much of a challenge as it may seem. The Navy and military expects its personnel to adopt a culture of fitness. With that being said, it really should not matter when the CFA is taken - May 1st or December 31st. You will have to take the USNA's PRT (and eventually Navy PRT or USMC PFT/CFT) whenever it's scheduled - whether it fits in your best fitness schedule or not. Instead of looking at the CFA as "I have to take it during swim season," take on the mantra of keeping yourself in great physical fitness throughout the year, thus WHEN you take it becomes almost irrelevant. As A6E Dad mentioned, no one expects you to take the CFA completely cold, so use practice CFAs as a tool to gauge progress and focus your physical fitness efforts.

You might want to try Stew Smith’s CFA workouts. He’s a former Navy SEAL, USNA grad and staff officer, now a fitness professional.

He also has YouTube videos.
