Will not be checking in luggage on flight for R Day ... is there a recommended way to send/ship a Leatherman tool such that it can be retrieved sometime after arrival at West Point for Beast? Thanks.

Two options that haven't gotten much attention yet for this:

1. General Delivery

This would require you to mail your multitool to the post office that you would be staying nearest to with the below address:
First name Last name
General Delivery
TownXXX, NY ZipXXXXX

You then just go up to a clerk at the post office and ask if they have anything in the General Delivery box for you, you'll need a driver's license. The downside to this, the reason I won't be doing it, is because I won't arrive in NY when any post office's are open... you would have to be getting there by Friday, when the post office is still open to get your mail. I advise calling the post office and making sure they do general deliveries before you do this though. Bigger cities with more than one post office usually only have one office that will accept things General Delivery.

2. Mail it to your hotel

Just mail it to the hotel you're staying in the night before R-day with your name on it. Much more simple, probably what I'll end up doing. Make sure you call the hotel and tell them ahead of time that there will be a package arriving for you probably before you arrive and check in as a guest, but most hotels won't mind.

First name Last name
XXXXXX Hotel
TownXXX, NY ZipXXXXX

Good luck!!

Thanks mtnman17. NC will be traveling per Carson Wagonlit ... awaiting details of hotel, then can look into your suggestion.

Our DS flew on arrangements made through Wagonlit a la military and it turned out he had a free checked bag arranged (we didn't know). If you are avoiding checking to save the $$, maybe find out if the bag is free - might be easier to check a bag with what you want in the first place and avoid the whole mailing thing.

That's what we already talked about doing, so he can take shampoo and that kind of stuff also. Even though he's only taking a large backpack we are going to check it. To save the hassle is worth paying for checking it we figure. He's going through Wagonlit as well.
