I understand that the academies look at your senior grades but I have a question regarding what they will look at as unacceptable. I received my appointment to the Naval Academy a few weeks ago and when I got my report card a bit later I found that I have straight B's. This is a drop from a 3.6-3.7 gpa throughout high school. While I won't make any excuses for the drop, I can't help but wonder whether the Naval Academy will revoke my appointment because of this. Thanks for any insight.
 
A 3.7 is a high B average, so I wouldn't consider your grade drop significant. Just don't drop that letter grade, and you should do fine.

I doubt that your recent grades would cause the NA to revoke your appointment, but dont let them slip anymore. :thumb:

It's on a 4.0 scale, not a 5.0 scale. 3.7/4.0 is about 2 A's for each B. My gpa for this year is 3.0 so far. I'd consider it significant.

Sorry, you're right. 3.7 GPA is indeed an A. I just got mixed up because I remember my counselor telling me my unweighted GPA of 3.6/4.0 converted to an 85.

Neverthless, I think that Connor is fine as far as his grades are concerned.
 
connor2013, are you taking several AP/IB classes? Senior year can be difficult if you are taking a typical SA candidate schedule. B's are good grades...now go and enjoy the holiday and your appointment. :biggrin: :thumb: (But go back next year ready to study!)
 
The Academy is not going to drop your appointment. I remember I used to get scared about that last year, but they are more concerned with filling quotas right now. Once you have your letter in hand, then youre pretty much set. Just remember, the last six weeks of your senior year will be a lot like the first 6 weeks of the academic year.
 
Grades

It might be good for your soul to experience a grade drop before you enter an academy. Once in, you WILL have other failures to add to the trophy case. Jeepers, creepers. Is it safe to assume you are taking tough courses? If you did your best, then don't beat yourself up. Sure they look at grades, but something (perhaps more than one something) must be impressive about you that led the academy to offer an appointment so early. Don't forget the "whole person" concept. Now, chin up! Eyes in the boat! Enjoy your holiday break!
 
They won't rescind an appointment for dropping from As to Bs. If you started failing your classes, might be a different story.

That said, give some thought as to why your grades slipped (you don't need to tell everyone on this forum, just consider it yourself). Are you overcommitted? Did you have a personal crisis? Did you lose focus? Are your classes much more difficult this year? Or was it just a blip on the vast radar of life?

The reason it's important to assess this is that, when you get to USNA, you will have more commitments than you can imagine, a lot more stress, really hard classes, etc. And you don't want your grades to drop (or start out low) there for a number of reasons -- service selection down the road not the least of them. It's only your future.:smile:

Consider what you might do to improve your grades next semester. Yeah, I know it's the end of the high school road and that, as long as you pass, you're okay. But USNA will challenge you to do your best every single time -- whether it "matters" or not -- and you might as well start that process now.
