My school automatically sends 1st semester senior year grades to USNA. I have read that you should only send 1st semester grades if USNA requests them, or if you did really well and want them to see it. Is this true? Or is it required to send? Asking because my 1st semester grades weren't the best. Thanks.

My DS emailed his Admissions Counselor and asked if he could have his first semester senior grades sent to the Academy. His counselor emailed back and said, "we will request your grades if we want/need them."

If USNA wants to see them, they will ask. They normally base their decision on only the first six (6) semesters of High School.
With that being said, it's anyone's guess what sort of impact these new 7th semester grades will have on your WCS.
My guess is that it's not a big deal.
Were I you, I would not waste time and energy worrying about something beyond my control.

If they've already been sent, then there's nothing you can do. If they have not been sent, I suggest you tell your h.s. administrator that you do not want them sent b/c USNA has not requested them -- and will request them if they are needed.

Interesting timing on this thread. I was about to send in a 7th semester transcript as both my gpa and class rank went up a bit. Have noms from both Senator and Congressman already. Then my counselor told me that the academy just wired for an updated transcript. I’m assuming that’s a good thing given my situation? Thoughts?

Yes, you should find that encouraging. If they want your 7th semester grades, that means you are still under consideration for an Offer.

I would say, sort of. The fact USNA has not requested your 7th semester grades is NOT a bad sign (apologies for double negative). If they don't ask for 7th semester grades, it means they're satisfied with their view of your academics (for good or bad) and that another set of grades isn't going to change their view.

My DS just got his 7th semester grades. He called admissions (did not identify himself) and was transfered to the staff member for his State and he asked if he should send in his updated transcript based on making As in three AP Classes: Physics II, Calculus and Literature. He sepecificaly asked if he should send even though not requested because of the AP grades. He was told that it would be a great idea to send. His class rank dropped by 6 places and asked if the new rank would replace his previuous. He was told that the rank would not be replaced as they only used full year JR year rank for that. So it appears you can send even if not requested and it “could” perhaps help- but who knows i guess - no guarantee.

If your 7th semester grades are terrific, there's no down-side to sending them. The question after Jan. 31 is whether USNA will accept them and it appears that, at least for the above poster, the answer was "yes."

The OP's question was about the school sending them "automatically" when they weren't "the best." If USNA does NOT request your 7th semester grades, I wouldn't recommend sending them unless they are quite good -- better than your performance to date. Bottom line: absent a demand for them from USNA, you need to consider whether they will help . . . or not . . . before you ship them off.

DD's high school sent her 7th semester grades. Her portal updated that they were received a week later. (Don't know whether USNA asked for them.)
