Congrats to Appointees
Today, I learned that there was an administrative error that caused DD to be notified of non-select, despite the academy acknowledging the error, DD was instructed to 'wait until status update' and to new applications will be accepted July 1, 2019.

I dont want to belabor the attributes of her application that made her triple qualified and beyond, but, there appears to be a reluctance to own the mistake and allow for reconsideration by way of waitlist or similar option available to staff.

We certainly can accept the non-select except for the fact that the academy acknowledges the error that caused her non-select...

Constructive feedback and advisement much appreciated..
DD Mom

Not much constructive feedback or advisement can take place with such a cryptic post. Are you saying that admissions 'messed up' somehow? If an academy is stating that they are not admitting her this year, then they are not admitting her this year. Not much that anyone on an anonymous chat board can assist with or even comment on.

Yes, I am stating that the admissions office errored in the review of her file..their office has acknowledged the error but not offering a remedy..without providing too much detail..her file was placed in stack b instead of stack a..I thought at least they could have offered to 'waitlist' based on the varied explanations..I do not want to 'complain' but I would like to gently nudge for reconsideration..I am seeking advice for a diplomatic approach.

It sounds like you knew she was 3Q which lends to she applied to USMA, but ended up in the pile for those who weren’t. To be totally blunt... if they wanted her bad enough after they found the error, they could if offered her appointment or even prep school. The class constantly shifts and changes even up to induction day.

NavyHoops..You are CORRECT! (on many points) Because I believe that there is a slim chance that the admissions staff will want to make things 'right', my husband and I dont want to shake too many bushes trying to get a review..Congressman's office is aware but officially cannot make an inquiry. (so they say). DD is a taking things well but it is hard to believe that there isnt a method to correct an obvious administrative error..

Again, we are trying to be patient, thankful but persistent advocates.

Thank you very much!

Speaking bluntly.... just because she was 3Q doesn’t mean she would of received an appointment. Not sure anyone will ever know the answer. It really depends how high she would of fell on slate and the NWL. Like I said before... if they wanted her they could figure it out. I would say if she really wants USMA, she has a great essay topics or next year!

My advice would be to leave it as it is as difficult as that may be. As the parent of a TWE and then successful re-applicant I understand. Reapply if desired for class of 2024. I also agree that if the SA REALLY wanted to they would find a way to admit this year. I honestly doubt that you will be able to successfully "nudge" anyone and instead will likely come off as seeming entitled and demanding and may in-fact cause harm to your DD's chances in the future with human nature being what it is. Im not suggesting the admissions folks are intentionally vindictive, I'm simply a realest understanding human nature. Let your DD deal with her admissions issues with your wisdom and guidance as requested. Just my 2 cents. I wish her the best. A lot of growing up and wisdom occurs for these young applicants during the application/admissions process.

I can think of no reason why an admissions office would even tell someone there “was a mistake” and that someone was put in the wrong pile. Without significantly more detail I don’t think anyone is going to be able to give you advice that holds any water.

Some good advice from Hoops and Husky. The post, and prior posts, are too cryptic for anyone to provide any specific advice, but you should recognize that DD isn't guaranteed or entitled Admission no matter how "3Q and Beyond" they are, or how poorly you think Admissions handled the process. There are many, many highly qualifed 3Q and beyond kids that don't get Appointments every year, and Admissions can't take "appeals" or request for reconsideration.

Admissions is tasked with putting together the class of highly talented, motivated kids. I'm sure mistakes are made from time to time, but from my detached perspective, they do a pretty good job at it. I agree with the comments that of OP DD was one of those that USNA absolutely had to have, they would figure a way to get her in.

Lets be honest, it doesnt matter who you are, most large organizations (especially civilian organizations ) including military are reluctant to own up to their mistakes. No one should be surprised by that.

This attributes individual qualities to a larger organization. An organization itself does not necessarily display these qualities, but individuals might. I've met many individuals in the military who are willing to own up to their mistakes.

I disagree, organziations do display certain qualities based on leadership, policy and culture. That doesnt mean you wont find individuals within an organization that will try to do the right thing or indivdiuals who are miserable to deal with. I am sure you have met individuals in the military who own up to their mistakes but I can guarantee you that there are people in the military who are miserable indivdiuals who no one wants to deal with. Its human nature and you will find these types of people everywhere.
