As far as shades go..how often will u get to wear them during beast? field exercises? PT? All the time, Any time?

Not at all...don't bring them. However, if necessary, you will be issued a lovely pair of nearly-indestructable glasses (a.k.a. BCGs).

But what if we want to look cool for recruitting photos?

To Sterling: You won't be able to use things like that, if you do it will just end up broken or lost in less than a day. I'm not sure if you can after beast, but using logic think about it. A plebe being allowed to do something? Unthinkable!!! So the answer is probably not.

they issue you sunglasses at beast but its the ones you use for the rifle range.

ok so i guess bringing sunglasses ( non prescription ) is not necessary. I dont need BCGs cuz i dont wear glasses so i wasnt asking about that and as far as rifle glasses does that mean clear lense or yellow lenses for shooting, nothin to protect from UV rays?

The Army will let you know if and when and from what your eyes need protecting.

im a pilot, my eyes are precious.

speaking of flying, i have heard and seen that USMA has a flying club? Ive tried to make contact and am curious if it has disbanded or still active. any help would be much appreciated.

Many of the cadets at USMA go into aviation. Their eyes are just as valuable and they do just fine. Many branch medical, they don't wear gloves any more than the rest to protect their "precious" hands, many become engineers and they don't wear helmets for their "precious" brains more than the rest. Don't sweat it, the risk will always be there.

One good thing to note: you will go several months over the winter without seeing the sun, so your eyes will be at mininum risk.

Sunglasses on the Optional List

"Sunglasses" are one of the optional items listed to bring on pg 8 of the 2013 Instructions for Applicants Offered Admission, along with nonelectric alarm clock, framed pic or collage 8x10, plain wristwatch, musical instrument, small hand-held dryer and/or curling iron, electric razor, and religious reading material. I can't tell if they are intended for Beast, but they are on the list.
