Does anyone ever have trouble with shin splints? I have been training hard for I-Day but the last couple of days i have been unable to run because of the pain in my shins. I am not sure what this is from, whether it is my shoes or some other problem. They really hurt, but I dont want to miss training. I am not an experienced runner, so I am not used to these kind of issues. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also try riding a bike or swimming for cardio if you can't run. There is less impact on your shins so you can recover quicker and stay in shape.

I have problems if I get the wrong shoes, if you have a runners shoe store somewhere around you they can ussually watch you walk or run and tell you if you have certain tendencies that could cause problems like shine splints and what to look for when buying running shoes to elleviate them.

My son has had problems with this off and on over the past year. Dr. Scholl's "shock absorbers" helped him quite a bit. They are fairly cheap ($20 or so) and are designed to help specifically with shin splints. The other thing is trying to do too much too soon. Try building your running slowly...which is hard when you feel like you want to be in top condition right now!

Good luck!
