I received notice of my AROTC scholarship today! However, I also have an LOA from USMA, an LOA and a nomination to USAFA. I am wondering if I can accept the AROTC scholarship in case theres some reason I am unable to attend a SA? I also applied for an AFROTC scholarship. IF I get the AFROTC, will I have to decide betweeen them or can I accept both as backup plans? Thanks.

You have until 01 May 2010 to make ANY decisions.

Keep all of your options open, sleep on it and weigh the pros and cons of each opportunity. However, as soon as you have decided you do not want to attend a school the courteous thing to do is inform them that you are no longer interested so they are able to reopen the slot for another interested candidate.

Do not feel guilty because you have been offered so many choices.

Our cadet was offered USNA, USMMA, USCGA, multiple nominations, AFROTC (4 year), NROTC (4 year) and a full ride in an Honors program at a civilian university. Be proud of all of your accomplishments!

Thank you so much, USNA1982BGO, your reply was very helpful!

Glad to be of assistance.

Just remember, once you have made your decision, make that phone call to ANY college or ROTC program that has accepted you. Thank them for the opportunity, another candidate will appreciate your respect and thoughtfulness!

PS: Your school can still make mention of all the scholarships and Academy offers that you receive at your awards ceremony. Adding everything up can be a very impressive number!

PPS: I would still recommend applying for outside state and local monetary scholarships. The money that you're awarded can be applied to your Cadet/Midshipman account to defer future purchases.
