Should I bring weather appropriate clothes to Norwich?

Norwich is my top pick and I will most likely be accepting my application soon. I'm from Florida and I do horrible in the cold, so I'm not at all accustomed to Vermont weather. Is it recommended that I bring weather-appropriate clothes (boots, jacket, thermals), or will the issued clothes be all I can wear?

You will get a specific list of what to show up with. Everything else you need will be provided. Good luck, you made a great choice.

Yes, as a Rook just bring what’s on the packing list, Norwich will supply the rest. Just wanted to mention also that there are many great stores/outlets in Burlington and Lebanon NH (like North Face, LL Bean, etc) Being from South Carolina my kids didn’t have proper winter coats or clothes. I recommend buying any non military winter gear up there. Welcome to the Norwich family!

Norwich is my DS plan B as we are still awaiting an update from SA doing Coprs with ROTC. We are visiting next weekend to have an idea of the campus and to get a feel for the area. I know with COVID restrictions we cannot do a whole lot, but are there any cool places we need to check out while visiting? Thank you!

Aagh, Covid. Not sure what is open, but here are my favorites: on campus be sure to peak inside Kreuzberg Arena (and pull up a Norwich hockey hype video on YouTube. Imagine yourself in a packed arena cheering on the nationally ranked hockey team). Same goes with Sabine Field. (Pull up a video of the corps marching down and lining the football field). My son’s favorite place at Norwich is Mt Paine. Stop by the campus rec building, maybe you can borrow some snowshoes for a little hike.

Then drive into Northfield. My favorite place to eat is Cornerstone (have a crock of Vermont Mac and cheese). Then drive down the road to the covered bridge and take some family photos.

If you still have time, get off the interstate at the Waterbury exit and take the Waterbury -Stowe road. First, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory, then Cabot cheese with free samples, then the Apple Cider Mill for fresh squeezed cider. Then turn off the road a wee bit and visit the beautiful Von Trapp Lodge (as in the Sound of Music) finally ending up at Stowe resort. Even if everything is closed, it’s still a lovely drive in any season.

Thank you! We will certainly do as much of these things as we can. I am originally from Maine, moved away after high school, and kind of excited that our son wants to go back north. Our son has been playing hockey since he was 5. He has been talking to he hockey coach so I do hope that we will be able to pop our heads into the Kreuzberg Arena, but will follow the tour rules. ;) Again, thank you for the great suggestions!!!!!

thank you so much for the wonderful suggestions. We were able to make our trip to NU and DS had a great opportunity to have a socially distance tour and he was able to ask a lot of great questions as it was only us and the admissions counselor. Part of the rule was that we were not allowed to interact with any of the students for obvious reason, nor enter the buildings. But we are so appreciative of the opportunity to be able to at least walk the campus. The drive from Pittsburgh was beautiful and we could not have had better weather for the trip. We got to see the local affair, even though they are still under a lot of restrictions. My son left really wishing he had a chance to talk to a member of the Cadet and someone on ROTC to get a life in the day, but the admission counselor is going to work on getting him connected to someone.

He is of course still holding hope for USAFA but happy that if NU is going to be his home, he feels like he would be a good fit and successful. I appreciate your help and suggestions. Thank you!!!
