Hello everyone, I'm just planning for the worst and hoping for the best, should I still apply to a prep school as an option B or is it better to just wait and see if I am chosen to attend a prep school/scholars program.

Definitely apply. No harm no foul. Best to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Plus, most of the prep schools applications are fractions in length as compared to a service academy, so you’ll fly through the process. Best of luck to ya!

You do not apply to the prep school and you also do not apply to be sponsored at civilian prep.

Can't speak to other Service Academies, but there is a sticky at the top of the USNA page regarding reapplying. Except for Foundation, USNA has a strong preference for attending a 4 year college, taking a strenuous STEM courseload and doing well. You should also consider NROTC if available and applicable. I am not suggesting that there aren't some good self-prep programs, but I have never heard USNA Admissions endorse or suggest the so called Academy prep programs.
